Shelagh Rogers on CBC’s Sounds Like Canada just interviewed a lady from the island… she says some of her neighbors collected 800 pounds of lobster. “You could pick up a plastic garbage bag full of lobsters in ten minutes”, she said, and added “The wind was very strong… there wasn’t much fight left in them”.
Apparently, the storm-addled lobsters were too weak to get back to the water, and would have died on the shores.
Shelagh reports that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans won’t charge anyone, as long as no-one complains, though it is illegal to harvest lobster out of season without a licence.
