How does my dishwasher get the soap out of that little container? Is there an elf inside who runs up and unlatches the door? I can’t see anything that causes the door to open and it’s making me crazy.
It’s operated by motors or solenoids and various cams and/or levers and/or pushrods (designs vary considerably) inside the door. Those are controlled, in turn, by either digital logic or some kind of electromechanical timer which controls the timing of cycle.
I’d guess an electromagnet or solonoid unlatches it from inside the door.
Cams and cogs? Science fiction. Elves are never given credit for all they do.
::sigh:: I just popped back in to say “never mind, I’m an idiot”, but too late! it’s all there for the world to see. I really have to learn not to post before coffee. The obvious answer came to me in the shower. :smack:
Yeah! 'Specially the underwear elves. Only they don’t steal mine, just put holes in them.
We now rejoin our program:
Especially not the machine elves.
Some models which I’ve serviced use bimetallic strips energized by the cycle timer-Kitchenaid, IIRC.
