Mine are in the box waiting for pickup.
I have returned from my vacation (to a location that will remain undisclosed until my recipients get their cards) and I have put my postcards in the mailbox just ahead of Mailman Eddie. Oops, he is grabbing them now! Bon voyage, my little postcards!
Dropped mine off at the post office this morning.
NOTE: I’m heading out for a 6-week road trip in a couple of days, so I won’t be able to offer timely acknowledgements of cards sent to me. It will be nice, however, to have something cool waiting in the mail stack when I get home! I’m expecting to bump this thread towards the end of October.
I promise to post again per Rule 5. But I just wanted to say in the meantime that I got the cards and will mail them out tomorrow!!
Please forgive my horrible hand writing. I don’t think I’ve actually hand-written something in cursive for years! If you can’t read your card, I will not be insulted if you PM me and ask what it says.
Just mailed the cards!! Hope they arrive soon.
Dropped mine in the mail this morning. Postcards awaaaaaaaaay!
Cursive is not required by the GLS2019DPE rules.
Rule 5 check-in, complete!
I got postcards! I got a pack from blondebear, who just lives down the road a piece. There is a postcard from 1976 depicting what San Francisco traffic would look like if there were zoo animals all over the roads.
I also got an accordion-style pack of postcards depicting scenes from the “well known” Tri-Cities of Davenport, Iowa, Rock Island, Illinois, and Moline, Illinois. The scenes are – I’m guessing – from the 1940s. The postage area is marked “1 1/2 cents” – so that long ago. There is an amusing place on the inside that says “Greetings From ________________”, so you can write… what exactly? It seems clear the postcards are from the listed Tri-Cities – every one of the 18 postcards is labeled with one of those cities!
Thank you blondebear; I can only hope that the postcard I sent you also arrived before you leave on your trip.
My cards are on the way. From my experience of former postcard exchanges, they will take about one week to cross the pond.
Got a card from romansperson today! 3 days for coast to coast ain’t bad.
And it has a cryptic message too! But I bet I know what it means.
And same here - silenus sent me a card with thison it, which came today. I loved that movie!
Also in today’s mail is a card with a funny message from Karen Lingel - it’s from this place, and it sounds pretty cool. If I ever find myself in Santa Cruz, I am definitely going to go there.
Thanks to you both!
I got my first card, from dbygawdcapn. That was fast! It shows a 16th century astrolabe from a shipwreck. **dbygawdcapn **writes that it may always show me the way, but I have to confess that I first need to learn to navigate after the stars, because I’m spoiled by GPS :).
My cards went in the mail today.
Just got a shiny Luray Caverns postcard from blondebear, who very generously also sent a packet of 1956 Las Vegas Strip postcards. Many thanks!
Mine are in the mail.
I received a hilarious postcard from Romansperson. I don’t want to give anything away in case she has also sent the same one out to others, but I LOL-ed. She didn’t even know my first nickname was Curly!
I also received a wonderful card from Silenus featuring an old beloved movie. It’s now on my wall.
Thank you!!!
I sent my cards today. I also received a Seymour Marine Discovery Museum card from Karen Lingel (who assures me it’s not just a “fish museum”. BlondeBear’s envelope also arrived! It contained a San Diego Zoo postcard with most of a giraffe on it with the Del Cornado hotel in the background. He also sent a vintage folder of “Views From Lookout Mountain” in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s really cool! A friend of mine lives in Chattanooga so I’m going to send pics of it to her. She can’t have it, though.
Both your cards were postmarked “Oakland, CA, 07 Sept 19 PM”. Pretty small world.
Wow! 4 postcards from Maus Magill in one day.
- Nashville, Tennessee: Music City
- Memphis, Tennessee: Bars of Beale Street at night
- Linville Caverns: A sleeping baby bat
4: Blue Ridge Parkway: Late summer
Maus, I love the mountains of WNC myself. One day we will retire there. My wife and I will be taking our annual vacation near Asheville in about 3 weeks. Had the Postcard Exchange been then I would have reciprocated with beautiful postcards of the Craggy Mountains.
As it is, my cards alas went in the mail today.
We were in Boone late last summer when I picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway and Linville Caverns cards. I wanted one of the Linville Gorge (The Single Most Beautiful Place on Earth), but no dice.
I received my first card today, from dbygawdcapn. It is from a cool museum that I’m going to add to my list for my upcoming vacation to the area. The card smells nice, too.
