You know, I was not familiar with his name - thanks for fighting my ignorance.
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles’ guitarist? Co-wrote Tracks of My Tears? Whoa.

George Kaplin could use some help with some acoustic guitar instrumentals.
Just when I decide the XV-890 will suffice for what I want: a nice guitar with a trem, and a little style… Fender releases something new.
The Fender Marauder. Offset body like I love. 25.5 inch scale, not 24 inch like a jaguar. Aesthetically, it’s got the 70s chunky headstock I like. The pickups are strange. It’s a jazzmaster at the neck, which is good, the thick single coil sound I like… then a triplebucker at the bridge. But I found the wiring diagram. It’s like a HSS Strat.
And it’s even affordable. Sure, it’s no Floyd Rose, but I don’t really need a Floyd Rose.
Guitars?
Oh yes, I remember them.
Those are the things that sit unused in a room of my house while I rebuild my fence and deck.
My arthritic hands are so sore and beat up from working with them that making a fist is just too painful.
Looking forward to bad weather days and some much needed practice (noodling) time.
I was just emailing with a friend who brought this guitar up. Oy; when I see stuff like that triple-bucker, it is hard not to giggle a little bit, like the coils on a pickup are like blades on razor - and then I think about that Nigel Tufnel guitar with a, like, 8-coil pickup or something. One coil is sufficient; two can be used to solve the hum problem; much past that, I start to go :dubious:
That is pretty much exactly why I want it, WordMan. I like a nice amount of stupid. But I did link the wiring diagram, and it basically matches a HSS design. How does a HSS with the single and humbucker together sound?
Bubba, did you know there was a study that showed exercise prevents arthritis? Isn’t it odd how many aged blues players there are that can still play their guitar? Can you think of even one who has serious arthritis problems in their fingers who was a guitarist from younger days?
Rock. It’s good for you.
Well, at least there seems to be a normal tone control, rather than that whacked ‘blend’ knob in the Pawnshop model discussed upthread. But, yeah, a three coil pickup has a certain amount of stupid that may be cool in the right circumstances, if all other factors are pleasant.
If I used a sig, this would be worthy.
Well, you know, there’s a fine line. And, all things considered, I grew up with hair metal and the 80s.
For guitar, I have a chorus effect and a (very old) Big Muff (usable for bass as well), but I was looking through my zzounds catalog page and saw a bunch of pedals for both instruments, so I thought I’d come here and check what pedals you guys use.
I’d like to stay away from multy-effects boxes completely, and keep the price under $50.00. Used is okay too.
To E: I always wondered how old you were, bud, and now I know at least an age range. Young’un.;)
Thanks

The only effect I wouldn’t go without is a delay unit for a) slapback b) Gilmour-esk ‘bouncing’ riffs c) actual echo effects.
My last gigging setup was three Boss pedals:
Turbo distortion
Dimension-C (DC-2)
DDL
and a bit of amp reverb.
Why the frak did I let the DC-2 go ![]()
Why did Boss stop making them?
Currently use a Guyatone tube distortion (TD-1) for when I want to get overdrive without bothering the neighbours, one DDL setup for slapback another for longer delays and a multi-effects box that I only use for reverb. These days the turbo distortion is a doorstop, literally.
As for suggesting something you could actually get your hands on. I’d go for a delay unit of some kind, lots of fun things you can do with echo.
I am cheap. And thanks to a number of good deals, I have a complete line of Cool Cat pedals. They’re pretty okay, especially for the price.
(I got five of them unused in boxes as used, etc.)
However, I’ll be honest, since I’m just playing for myself, I mostly just stick with the built-in effects on my Vox DA-5 modelling amp.
I’m basically here, too: I have a dirtbox of some sort - had been an old ProCo Rat but has recently been a Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive. I recently got an analog delay - just an MXR Carbon Copy - to add a bit of slapback for some parts. Haven’t played with Gilmoury type of settings yet, but probably should - any tips Small Clanger?

Well, you could get some flashing lights and do it properly (David at work).
I’ve forgotten how to do the skip-to-time thing in youtube but maybe it’s best to watch the whole thing anyway, the build up is… quite effective.
I think he’s using a delay of about 300ms (looks like your Carbon Copy can do that) with a hefty amount of regeneration, apart from that it’s just case of timing the ‘bounce’ right. Much easier to demonstrate than to describe.
Unless you count a tuner pedal as an effect, I don’t really use effects.
I own quite a few different effects units, and I do use them on occasion, but my standard setup for my main thing is just guitar-> tuner pedal -> clean amp. I went through a lengthy period of only playing acoustic, and now that I’m back playing electric, I find that what works best for me is something kind-of like an acoustic sound. Only louder.
Actually I think of it as like a pre-fusion jazz guitar sound, except that I couldn’t play a jazz tune if my life depended on it.
Yeah, I used to use delay this way a bit when both The Edge and Gilmour did a lot of it. I found it was a bit busy - it was a distraction that kept me from really listening to what I was playing and sounding musical. I should go back and try it now to see if I have slowed down a bit and can make it sound beautiful instead of just cool…
I hope this is the right thread for asking this:
I need help with Sesame Street song tab. Specifically, the O song (YouTube link). I just need the chords.
I am going to play at a friend’s child’s birthday party and this was requested. It’s in C (I think) then moves to D then G but after that I’m lost. Any takers?
Thanks.
PJ, have you tried chordie? That’s where I go for tabs/chords. Break a leg at your gig!
Quasi
Hey thanks, Quasi. I had not tried chordie before posting. I’ve searched the site and didn’t find it. I’ve also searched every where else on the net I could think of to no avail.
Normally I wouldn’t ask but this seems like such a simple song I thought someone could bang it out in a few minutes. Anyway, thanks for the link - it’s good to have another resource!
Jain
I think it’s C D G the first time round, then basically C Am, C Am G thereafter. Alternating bass notes with the thumb.
The chords may be simple, but the time signature seems quite irregular, so maybe not quite so simple overall.
