Erk. Is that… is this shit real. I need advice now. That Mozak is what I want, of course. But, uhm. I mean. The pricing. Yow. Anyone ever hear of this?
No clue - but if so, the prices would be a great deal. I’d head to the Gear Page and search on Malden…which I did here…
And they sure seem pretty positive. Er. Aw. MAN. Mozak or Utopia. Mozak. Got to go Mozak. But… augh. Just before Christmas? Ow. Ow ow. Ministre? Analysis of the construction?
Where do they lay out their construction? What are you looking to learn?
If I’m making a horrible mistake. That, and if they’re actually ‘better’ guitars than Xaviere. That SG copy looks really, really nice, but I really want the offset shape.

Mozak review by Malden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyuIMEU6uNA&feature=related
Overall, the guitars sound and look pretty solid, but there’s no way I can compare them to Xavieres or MIM Fenders, etc, without handling and playing one…
ETA: so - would you be making a “horrible mistake”? I doubt it - I suspect the guitar is somewhat better in parts and constructure vs. an Xaviere, but couldn’t assert how much better. No clue how they might compare with Epi’s and MIM Fenders because some of them are pretty decent - but if you end up with a Malden of that build quality or better, you would be getting a good deal. Now, is that particular seller and whatever particular guitar you pick going to be great? That’s always the risk with buying online. I doubt you could go for a refund with this type of sale…
That’s pretty much where I was thinking, and I read that thread already. Now I’m just agonizing on passing up the Bulldog which looks like a heck of a deal but I don’t want a SG. That, and the Xaviere has a mini-humbucker in the neck and this doesn’t and is it too country and I can’t hear anything till I get home and are they going to sell out and maybe I should go Utopia instead and…
You know the drill. Horrible self-doubt till I get my hands on it.
G.A.S. is a fickle beast…
Mmhm. And this just jumped me into ‘get your first really good guitar’ about a year before I planned. Though that Bulldog is awfully tempting.
I think you mean Bulldozer. I dunno, I like the looks of an SG, but I thought the shape of the Bulldozer was inelegant; too heavy, too battle-axe-like. The Karma OTOH looks really cool, esp the sunburst (which, sadly, is sold out). ETA, however the Karma has no fret markers (well, one fret marker at the 12th), which really puts me off.
I can’t commit until I actually get one in my hands, but I’m tending toward the ‘Steal’ column as well. What’s normally in the $200 - $300 range? Squiers, Harmony, Aria and other guitar-shaped objects that are nothing but a make-work project for guitar techs…
So if these things are any good at all, they’re certainly worth the price.
Yeah, I’m stuck at Karma, Mozak, and JT-90. The JT-90 will have too high action, but it’s got a humbucker, which the Mozak won’t.
The Karma’s neck is the same width as my 585, and that’s a little skinny for me. I think I’m good without the Karma.
Okay. Bulldozer or Mozak… Wheeee (augh!)
I’d suggest not getting the Mozak, since you already have a guitar (or is it 2?) with a Telecaster feel. Yeah, it’s a different body shape, but same approach. Try something new if you think it’ll feel interesting. At this price you can unload it if it’s not working for you. (I may just buy a Karma for that reason, though I’m still considering.)
Vintage Guitar magazine published a newsletter listing out the Top 10 most valuable vintage guitars - I started a thread about it here…
Linkey no workey!
No, I have one strat and one ‘I have no idea what this is Les Paul-335’ . Zero telecasters.
Argh :smack:
Thanks phungi.
Pulled the trigger. It’s a little more metal looking than I wanted, but the forward projection should solve the neckheavy problems of most SGs. Stratocaster neck length. I can wait on the Jazzcaster. If you look at it next to the Bulldozer, it’s basically a SG with a weird neck.
Excellent - we look forward to a full report. One note: that sucker has very high-output pickups for metal use. If you are more of a hard rock-to-blues guy, it could turn out that those pickups are waaay too hot for your needs; you would need to swap them out for lower-output “PAF” type pickups. In a solidbody guitar this is pretty easy to do…
