The Great SDMB Winter 2015 Postcard Exchange!

I got my first postcard today! It was deceptively packaged in a business-size envelope. (And is therefore blank on the back and reusable!) It’s a vintage postcard of a very New-Englandy public library in Ellsworth, Maine, where Atomic Mama lives. Thanks, Atomic! It looks like a nice library.

Omg, I totally missed out on this year’s postcard exchange! Maybe summer 2015 will be my comeback gig

Came home last night to a lovely Balancing Rock postcard from Cheez_Whia! Made me long to head out west. Thanks!

Got postcards yesterday from both Karen Lingel (Charlie Chaplin in The Tramp, filmed in Niles Canyon, Calif.) and jayrey (five impressive covered bridges in Oregon). Many thanks to you both - and hope you feel better soon, jayrey!

I received two lovely cards today!

Atomic Mama sent a vintage card and history of a beautiful mansion-turned-museum located in her town. They serve High Tea there in the summer.

Karen Lingel turned me onto Marguerite Clayton, a silent movie actor with piercing eyes. I now must find a movie with her in it to watch!

Got a card from romansperson, with a map of North Carolina and lots of interesting details. My kids were impressed with her stylish handwriting. Ten days from the US, that’s quicker than I expected.

Yay! All three of mine made it to their recipients.

If minionkat has received the third one from me I’m all accounted for.

Got a cool postcard of two Navy helicopters in flight from tonyfop in Maryland, and one with the Legend of Spanish Moss from Labtrash that reminds me of the time I was visiting family in Florida, and my daughter tried using Spanish Moss as a necklace. It was fun until we noticed the little bites around her neck from the chiggers who had been using it as a home!

I got two cards today!

Karen Lingel sent me a very cool picture of Broncho Billy and Atomic Mama a beautiful historic card of the Ellsworth Power House and Dam.

Thank you both very much! Great choice of cards!

This is my first time participating, and it’s been fun. I’m going to have to up my game going forward and keep my eyes open for cool cards.

Scroll down the page a bit and sign up for the 10th Annual Shot Glass Exchange. Also a lot of fun, and what you get is rather more useful!

And I have the last two cards! The middle message from silenus and a cute zombie card from Lsura. Good times. Thank you!

I love the various postal services! I drop three cards in the same slot at the same time with the same postage on each. Two get there at once, and the other arrives 3-4 days later. One wonders where the middle card went?

Sounds pretty cool! Unfortunately I didn’t look at this thread until it was too late…for this time! Next time I’ll see about participating. Now, one thing - are there any assurances that those who participate in this won’t be given the address for someone with whom they’ve had a heated exchange online?

Nope!

But what does that have to do with anything? I passionately loathe more than a few people on this board, but I’d buy them a beer if we ever met in meat-space.

I could use a beer.

I got my second postcard today: a whimsical illustration of a German idiom, that I totally get, from The Butterfly’s Ghost. It has a cool stamp, too. Thank you!

Mine were mailed from northern Colorado on 3/11, and NO ONE has reported receiving them. I will mail new ones Saturday if they still haven’t turned up.

I got my last one today, a lovely 100th anniversary card of the Calgary Stampede from minionkat.

Which made me think of this: my cousin and his wife were living in Calgary when their first child was born. About a year or so later, they returned to the states. I proceeded to start calling their kid “their little Canadian anchor baby”. They, being fairly conservative, were not amused at all.

I got three today - two from Baker and one from Weedy. Here’s visual proof that Kansas is not all flat, and that Sydney Harbour still looks awesome. Thank you so much! I now have a nice collection of cool cards.

And unless something unexpected arrives, that’s all the cards I should be getting - I’ve gotten something from all of my senders.
