I’m so glad all three of mine made it safely to their destinations. I’m thinking of local outings where one of the top priorities will be to buy postcards! This was so fun. I want to do six next time.
Thanks, Elendil’s Heir!
ETA: Oops, I think only two have made it so far. Hopefully the third will very soon.
I am ashamed to admit I sent the postcards only today. Mea maxima culpa.
I have a pretty card from romansperson, a map of North Carolina. Says it was sent from the beach. Grrr, I wish I was at a beach. Can you feel my jealous vibes?
And from blondbear I have a packet of cards “Fabulous Homes of the Stars”. It’s a Hollywood must! Also included was a picture of the Rosicrucian Planetarium in San Jose California. Man, they don’t build buildings like that any more! It looks like a fantasy structure from an old movie.
Thank you Cheez_Whia for the lovely postcard of Balanced Rock in Colorado. I’m surprised some vandal hasn’t unbalanced it yet. If someone tries, I hope it falls on him.
A friend moved to Colorado a couple of years ago and loves to talk about the sunshine and wonderful weather. She said if it snows, it’s gone in a day or two, and that its always sunny. My cousin went to college in Coloradoin the 60s and never moved back to Illinois. Some great-great-great uncles moved out there for their lungs in the late 1800s and didn’t come back. It looks gorgeous out there. Why am I still in Illinois!!!
I got TWO postcards yesterday: One is from Karen Lingel, and depicts a (1915) silent-film cowboy star, one G. M. Anderson, AKA “Broncho Billy”! And he is one handsome dude. His leather studded chaps are quite something. The card came from the Silent Movie Museum in Niles, Calif.
My other postcard is from The Butterfly’s Ghost. It depicts one of the old city gates in the city of Cologne (Germany), complete with a three-story tower and portcullis – dating from medieval times, I think. Our SDMB friend **Ghost **mentions that she lives in the immediate neighborhood, and even got married at the gate! Really!
Thanks to both of you and to all who have participated.
I’m ready to scout out some more postcards for the next go-round
**jayrey ** finally reporting in, having just risen from her sickbed. It’s been a doozy last two weeks, between too much work and a killer head cold/sinus infection.
My three postcards went in the mail on the 13th. I have received my cards from Elendil’s Heir, **Honey **(with an invitation to visit! Thanks!), and Anaglyph. All very cool cards. Thanks much. Sorry I was such a slow poke but events slid out of control.
My two US ones arrived today - lovely Myrtle Beach SC from Labtrash and Navy helicopters in Pax River MD from Tony Fop. Funny, because I have a personal connection to both places: family vacation in Myrtle Beach shortened due to a hurricane when I was a baby, and worked in an F-18 Hornet division in the 1980s with facilities in Pax River! Thanks!
Received a lovely postcard today from JWT Kottekoe- a gorgeous picture of a log cabin on the shore of a lake that looks very reminiscent of Wisconsin/Minnesota. JWT says on the card that it reminds him of canoeing in the northwoods of Minnesota - it reminds me of canoeing in the northwoods of Wisconsin!
… um… okay, okay I admit it. Canoeing memories for me are mostly composed of splashing water and retrieving paddles before they drift too far away. I’m a master at tipping canoes… but the picture does remind me of a nice place to dry off before resuming a canoe trip down river…:o
I think I got the same postcard from** JWT Kottekoe**, but did you get an “Up” stamp? Thanks, JWT. If I have any physics questions, you’re now my go-to guy.
I also received TWO cards from Teuton! One is of the “Mysterious Stonehenge” where it’s apparently cloudy quite often. The other is of a “Caravan Park” (campground to those of us in the US) near his home. It has lovely views, a beach and a pool. You live in a beautiful place, Teuton.
There’s only my UK postcard to be received. I’m sad this is almost over for me!
