I received a funny postcard today from EinsteinsHund, an Urgent Greeting drawn by a comedian, Loriot, I now have to investigate. I especially appreciate the postage stamps of spring flowers, both of which I have in my yard. The image is the 1950’s equivalent of a person today texting and scootering at the same time. Thank you!
I’ve received all 3 postcards now. Many thanks to Elendil’s Heir for setting this up!
Tada!
We have the physical confirmation trans-Pacific mail does work both ways with a card featuring a resplendent 1940’s Art Deco air terminal museum, which isn’t quite what you’d expect to see from the leafy suburbs of Houston, TX.
Thank you El_Kabong!
That improves my score to 2-6/1-6 outbound/inbound.
I received my third card as well, from penultima thule down in Australia. It’s of the Rod Laver Arena tennis courts, with an awesome sunset above. And the stamp matches!
Probably should read the instructions before posting, and then I could actually quote. Funnily enough it was postmarked June 5th (maybe a weekend in between) and arrived exactly one week after the second postcard.
But I had to share this, as it’s a perfect response, and is how Netflix is advertising Buffy:
Giles: “It’s the end of the world”
Xander and Willow: “Again?” - Doomed
Received two cards from Elendil’s Heir last week. Card #1 features a piece of abstract art
by artist Abaham Cruzvillegas that has the longest title I have ever seen for a work of art.
The image on the card also appears on this website.
Second card has a photo of the dining room in the Swan house located in Atlanta, Georgia.
This house was used in the film “The Hunger Games” as the president’s house.
Received during the splinter of our missed content was a postcard from Texas and Dolores Reborn. A tranquil alpine scene with snow capped mountains which my antipodean mindset wouldn’t have thought from the Lone Star State.
Um, hello? This is my first post to this whatever-it’s-called. I received a postcard today from @JoseB (is that how I do that? I mean JoseB (is that how I do THAT?))
Oooh, instant preview. Nice.
The postcard has 9 pictures of a wide variety of buildings in Den Haag (“The Hague”), old buildings, church-y buildings, palace-y buildings, super-modern buildings. Very lovely. The Binnenhof looks very similar to Notre Dame des Victroires in Quebec City.
Glad to! I got both of yours a few days ago, as well - with your very well-drawn B&W images of a man pedaling a self-propelled helicopter, and the other with several steam locomotives on parallel tracks. My thanks.
Die Capacitrix, I still haven’t received a postcard from you, unfortunately.
I’ve got all my cards, but I haven’t heard back from @RealityChuck if he already got my card. It went across the pond and may take a little longer, but both my other cards to the US already arrived last week.
The reciprocation continues …
From Karen_Lingel no less with what seems to be a particularly ornate mantlepiece paperweight, if you had an early Qing Dynasty gilded bronze figurine just about the house for that purpose.
The piece is from the Avery Brundage Collection, I recall Avery as the IOC President at the Munich Games.
The card also features an absolutely pristine”USA Forever” stamp which I can only assume US Post didn’t want to deface. Post marked 3rd June.
I have been remiss in reporting on the postcards I received.
The first one was from Karen Lingel, which shows “Abstract Picture” by Gerhard Richter at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her note says “Remember the beforetimes when people could go to museums and see beautiful art?” I like the word “beforetimes” and will have to start using it. At first I thought the image on the card was smeared but that’s really what it looks like. He did a whole series of similar paintings. Thanks, Karen!
The second one was from Peedin and shows Bath Abbey in Avon and is from her first trip to England in 1983. I went to England in July of 2015 and went to an evensong service at Westminster Abbey and this card reminded me of that experience. (I also went to 14 amusement parks and Stonehenge – all in 11 days!). Thanks, Peedin!
The third card finally arrived yesterday from JoseB. It came all the way from the Netherlands and shows a picture of the Binnenhof in The Hague. Specifically, it shows the arrival of the king for the ceremony opening the Houses of Parliament, per JoseB’s detailed note. The king’s carriage is gold, very ornate, and is being pulled by 8 horses. A friend of mine has horses but she doesn’t have a carriage like that! Thanks, JoseB!
This was great fun and I look forward to next year’s postcard exchange.
