The Green Hornet (w/ Seth Rogan) - Trailer

Looks crappy to me.

This. He’s hot now, I’ll be seeing this move (whether or not it’s actually good is a different subject.)

Would really enjoy this if it were good. The January opening raises my antenna - January is normally the place where studios take bad movies to die…

…the trailer looked a bit all over the place. There was a clear exposition of characters and plot, but a loose collection of stunts and jokes.

There’s a fine line between clever and stupid. Not sure where this falls.

Slight correction:

“Waah! They ruined my grandfather’s childhood!”

Well, there’s quite the push on with the comics and the movies and such. And the character could use a reboot. So what the hell, right?

On Seth Rogan? Yes, he’s not traditionally this sort of role…but neither was Bruce Willis prior to Diehard and look what that did for him.

I don’t even need or want to see the trailer.

Michel Gondry? Oh man, I am so there, I don’t care WHAT the movie is.

Evan Goldberg? Wrote Superbad. Good enough for me.

Seth Rogan? Love him, love everything he does.

Christoph Waltz as the bad guy? Oh helll yes!

Cameron Diaz, Edward Furlong, Tom Wilkinson, Edward James Olmos? Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep.

I am so there, opening day. Now if I can just avoid trailers for the next few months.
And hey, I have to catch a bus to work in 6 minutes, but a lot of good movies have been released at the beginning of the year. Shutter Island is the first one that comes to mind. I’ll have to look up others.

Yeah, that raised my suspicions also. The post-holiday season has traditionally been a dumping ground for the studios to chuck their deadwood into. Let’s just say I won’t be surprised if they decide not to screen this in advance for the critics either.

From what I can tell, Seth Rogan’s character is the son of the original Green Hornet. Presumably, his father was competent, and the kid gets pulled into it. That’s why the car is retro.

I can’t possibly see how this could not suck. Having Seth Rogan means it’s either going to be a comedy or have comedic elements. Jay Chou is not a great martial artist, thus the minimal action the original series had is gone as well. On top of this, the original tv show sucked (it ran for only 1 season) so I think this was dead well before it was even greenlit.

edit: One more point: all movies based on non-powered masked men have failed miserably, e.g. the Spirit, the Phantom, etc.

:dubious: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight?

The exception which proofs the rule.

Couple points:

  1. They sucked too. Batman was not, never, ever, EVER a ninja, Heath Ledger copied Jack Nicholson, and Bruce was a genius who made his own gear…he wasn’t a thug who needed a team of scientists to help him, and the Batsuit wasn’t made in China.

  2. Good luck trying to argue that Batman wasn’t a superhero, not some ordinary dude wearing a mask.

I have a question: if this movie is being released in January, why are they promoting it now? Releasing a trailer to build buzz I can understand, but why is Rogan already out promoting it on TV?

Did they get Wynton Marsalis at least? Because Al Hirt is dead.

hah.

Hornet. Buzz.

and shit.

Really? I remember Nicholson playing a gangster with clown makeup. Could have been some generic criminal instead of the Joker and the film would have been the same.

But yeah, I’m in the minority; from the trailer I’d say the movie looks dumb.

Nope, Nicholson fell in a vat of chemicals that turned his skin white and his hair green, he wore human makeup. Nicholson also had a “wanna see a magic trick?” scene. I think Ledger played a psychotic thug (with supernatural powers, apparently) that wore clown makeup. In an interview, Ledger said he based his performance on Nicholson’s.

Trailers somehow mysteriously appear months or years in advance. Check out imdb.com, there’s trailers for tons of films that are way, way off.

There are also many examples of trailers made so early that they include scenes cut out of the final film.

seth rogen is a major miscast, as is cameron diaz as a hot chick.

There’s not one part of this post that’s correct.

Also, the TV show in the '50s was not the original source for the Green Hornet.

Shit, I wish they would just call it something new and not try to rip off GH. The trailer is nothing like the old show. And, well, it doesn’t have Bruce Lee…

It’s probably a good action movie though.
