The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Anybody else a fan of this show? Death’s from Jamaica, Mandy’s got a total Wednesday Addams dead-pan manner about her (and the gal that does her voice [url=“http://www.greydelisle.com/”]is hot!!!), and Billy’s the dumbest thing ever. It’s probably one of my favorite Cartoon Network, non-Adult Swim shows.

Damn it, here’s her site.

I watch a ton of cartoons - both for my own interest and with my 6 yr old son and 4 yr old daughter - and (sorry) I think the show is abysmally idiotic. Just plain dumb.

Nothin’ to see here. Move along…

Wow, that’s gotta be a record for one of my threads for the shortest time posting the OP and a thread crapper showing up.

I know nothing about this show, except that my daughter and her pals love it, and they’re very fond of the singer - Voltaire - who does the theme song. This group is also into Futurama, Cowboy BeBop, Invader Zim and for some weird reason, Jimmy Neutron.

For teh most part, I don’t like it. They’re just plain mean to Grim, who doesn’t really deserve it. Mandy’s such a smug little bitch, ooooh… I just want Starfire and Raven to come over and smack her, Titans style.

But there was this one episode where Billy went on a Picnic by himself, and ended up involved in a war between Dwarves and Elves over cookie franchise rights. Sheer brilliance from beininng to end.

I think it is great, the only current cartoon I really watch. Unfortunately they are not showing it in the mornings anymore.

They have had some great episodes such as the one where Billy is afraid of clowns, Billy getting involved in the elf, dwarf war, Skarred for Life among others. A couple of episodes over do the being mean to Billy thing, but overall, I find it very entertaining.

Oh come on, now, if Death was your bitch, wouldn’t you slap him around when you got the chance? And actually, they’re all mean to one another. Billy and Mandy cheated in a game of Limbo and won not only the life of Billy’s hamster, but also that Grim would be their friend forever. Grim doesn’t really like any of the others, nor does Mandy, Billy’s an idiot who likes everybody. So, they take turns on making the others suffer, with Billy more often than not, getting the worst end of the deal (they told him that dog crap was both shampoo and steak sauce).

IIRC, that one had one of the guys from Kids in the Hall as a guest voice.

It’s the Clowns!
The Clowns!
The Clowns will destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

…destroy us all!

And, in addition to the Clown-O-Phobia episode, I liked the Wacky Racers parody.

No. But then again, I’ve read a lot of Sandman, so I may have a pro-death bias.

I think I’m just oversensitive to the suffering and humiliation of fictional characters. If they deserve it (like both Billy and Mandy do), if it’s *really * very funny, or maybe if everything works out in the end, I can enjoy it, but not so much here. I don’t hate the show, I just think it’s among the weakest of CN’s lineup.

Meh. Give my Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. That’s a fun show.

And the “Little Rock of Horrors” episode. BRAINS! BRAINS!

I watch occasionally and sometimes it entertains me.

That’s one of the few episodes I really like. I love the song–I have the ep saved on TiVo, because I mean to work the song into a LARP game somehow. I don’t know how, but it will happen. The first episode with Eris was also fun, with Mandy upstaging the Goddess of Discord.

Other than those, the show doesn’t have much going for it. I find Billy’s idiocy too extreme to be funny; it’s just annoying. Mandy is obnoxious, and is only tolerable when she’s being vicious to someone even more obnoxious (like Eris). Grim is just pathetic.

Yeah - sorry for being the grouch. I was in a bad mood when I posted that.

Don’t get me wrong - I still don’t like the show, but as a rule I try to avoid being a “thread crapper” (good phrase, btw) when someone is posting for fans…

Grim may talk like a Jamaican, but in one episode where he and Billy changed places, Grim was definitely white. I found that rather curious and somewhat chickenshitish on the part of the producers.

I feel the same way, but because of Discworld.

I feel like I should like this show, and yet I don’t. <Shrug>

Chickenshit? Grim was white because he traded places with Billy, who is white. I’m pretty sure that Grim wound up looking like Billy, only much taller.

Yeah! I like to quote that song whenever some Doper mentions “brains”.

The show hasn’t been quite the same since CN changed the title.

Wait…Voltaire does the theme, too?

‘Brains’ is his - my first introduction to him and Grim & Evil (Teletoon doesn’t show Grim Adventures without Evil Con Carne). (Didn’t realise it was him until I had more of his stuff.)

Uhh. I don’t actually know the answer to this question. I know he does “Brains” but I sorta kinda assumed that WAS the theme. This is based on my daughter’s walking around singing it, and when I inquired, she said it was from this cartoon. My apologies for misleading.
