The guy with the best job in the world?

Did this very briefly when AEG was still doing well. Independant contractor. It was fun… But really no money to be had in it. Also sorta heartbreaking when my line was discontinued. :frowning:

It appears you’ve never worked as voice over talent. Producers will make you repeat the same line over & over & over, 30 different ways & then ask that you “improvise with it a little.” You try saying “Only at your Local Southern Ford Dealer” as many ways as possilbe; then think of 5 different ways. Plus, talent is usually freelance. You have to do your own billing, figure your own taxes & pay them, get your own insurance.
Of course, you don’t technically have a boss. So you can schedule whether you want to work depending on how hungry you are.

You know, somewhere in the Patent Office is a government employee whose job is to examine the sex toy patent applications.

Had a friend who had to research said patents for her law firm. Someone had come up with something ‘new’, and it was her job to make sure it was original. She was very conservative about her sexuality in public, and I suspect spent most of her time in the office on perma-blush.

And there, in a nutshell, is why Don LaFontaine is so damn rich: he is so skilled at voice work that he usually nails it the first time. As a result, there are fewer retakes. This means less studio and editing time, which means lots of money saved by paying Don a premium. And because Don is so good and rarely has to do retakes, he works maybe 90 minutes a week.

… I’m a school teacher and I teach chess, roleplaying and computer games.

Yes, really!

I don’t know if it’s an actual job or more of a lifestyle, but I’ve noticed that Hugh Hefner always seems to have a smile on his face.

A Sydney radio talkshow host found, when he first started out, that he felt really uncomfortable talking into thin air. He hired a guy whose job was to just sit there in front of him and listen.

One of the best jobs I have ever heard off is either running a LAN gaming shop or being the assistant at a video game arcade. The latter is cool, if you are good with the games. You get free games, and a ring of people looking at your extremez-movesets.

The best job I have ever gotten was being a librarian in a school. The pay is good, not much pressure, plus…I get to read on the job. The downside is - there’s only one manager and if I am to become perm, I would have no chance of advancing.

IMHO, the best job I would like to have is a career in writing game reviews for a magazine.
