He is done here on Wednesday (he is off today), so it just seems like more bad than good could come from such a confrontataion. I’ve already paid him for most of the work because he provided me an address, references, and a copy of his driver’s license.

I was just making the point that whatever happened that resulted in his conviction and/or incarceration happened a long time ago and this guy has doubtless been in the situation you are describing now more than once – somtimes aware of it, sometimes not (like now). You think if you were to have sent him packing - after he gave you references and personal info, he showed up on time and did the work well at a reasonable price- he wouldn’t know why?

Just sayin that he could well have been driving away thinking “Ya know, if they just asked what happened, I could explain…”

Or he could plan to come back that night and start swinging his hammer at you.

lol @ the hammer. I don’t want to wake up at 3 am like the movie Sling Blade. Either way, the work I hired him for is done now. Thank you for all your input be it negative or positive. I could careless about feeling ‘morally superior’ to someone. We all have skeletons in our closets, most just aren’t six years old.

My wife looked him up on our local crime database after I had hired him. He is no more than 25 yards from me right now doing work on one of our rental houses. I would not feel so strange or upset if it was statutory rape or something along those lines, but is for something way worse. In the description of his crime it states that he forcibly raped a 6 year old. I figured this is a pit thread because it is upsetting, but what should my course of action be? Do I need to tell the neighbors up the road who have young children that I am now employing a rapist? I am having a very hard time dealing with him or even looking at him because this is an issue that for historical reasons hits very close to home for me. Good Og, this is frustrating.

Let me put it this way: how would YOU feel if one of your neighbors had a convicted child rapist anywhere near YOUR kids?
