Just curious, but why do you think you have a great coach? I’ve never been impressed with Ron Wilson. He’s coached 4 years with Anneheim. Of that, only 1 year above .500 (which is somewhat understandable because the Ducks had little to no talent during those years (sorry Paul)). And he’s been coaching the Caps for three years. He was under .500 one time and he had some talented players.
I’m not saying you have a coaching problem, but I wouldn’t say he’s a ‘great’ coach by any means. He hasn’t proven himself at all.
Getting rid of coaches, imo, is usually a cheap way out of a mess (I’m looking at you Pens) but I think that the Caps could do better in the coaching area. There are better coaches out there.
Actually, when I think of choking in the playoffs there are other teams that come to mind long before the Pens, if I mention what team I’m thinking of my good friend Odie will come and kick the ever loving shit out of me…
I really don’t see why the Caps aren’t playing any better than they are. You’d think that after dumping a shitload of cash on players and acquiring Jagr they’d have a better record.
Conversely, one has to look at the Oilers and the Flames who are second and third overall and wonder how these teams are faring this well with no money to speak of. I’d be looking for one of these teams to be going deep in the playoffs, it might be like the 80’s all over with Oilers fighting the Islanders for the Grail.
Wild Bill Hunter, the guy that made the Oilers a reality and newest member of the Canadian Sports Hall of fame said that he has never seen a better Oilers team and added that the present team has more depth than even the teams of the 80’s. He knows his hockey and I agree with him 100%.
With the way our Canadian clubs are playing this could very well be the year the Cup comes back to where it belongs.
Scott Parker, just let me say that you’re a fucking pussy.
I saw you “fighting” Laraque the other night when your Avs played Edmonton and it seemed to me that instead of fighting you were holding on for dear fucking life so that George couldn’t rip your head off.
NOW. Where’s that Slip Mahoney fella anyways? I have some crow here that he might find tasty.
Seems that since the return of Theodore my Habs have improved tremendously despite his assertions to the contrary while his beloved Leafs are well… still the f’ing Leafs.
Habs 6-1-1-1 in their last 9
Leafs 4-3-1-1 in their last 9
The gap is closing my friend. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
jarbaby - I think you must be referrring to the Edmonton St. Louis game… I must have stepped away from the game for a minute cause I missed this vicious and deliberate attack on Captain Doug.
You’re just worried that he might get his purty face messed up aren’t you?
I don’t think there was any intentional injury and Weight gets a lot of respect here (still). I don’t think any of the guys would intentionally try and maim him and after all, it’s a game played with sticks and stuff happens.
This is however, one more point for the people who think that everyone should be playing with a face shield.
True he’s probably not going to wind up in the hall of fame, and he does have a bit of a problem getting the team motivated early in the season, but he does do a pretty good job of micromanaging the lineups and calling his players to task. Also he’s the only Caps coach to take us to the Stanley Cup (even if we lost). Maybe great is too strong of a word, but we could have a hell of a lot worse.
As for the Pens comment I wasn’t saying they’re chokers, I was referring to their nasty habit of knocking the Caps out of the playoffs every time we run into them. Gods, I hate them almost as much as I hate the Rangers
Yes, let’s certainly not bring up the Penguins. Making fun of them is like picking on the retarded kid, it’s just too easy.
What a travesty that Detroit game almost was. But it seems to be par for the course this year. We get ahead by playing aggressively, and then let the other team just march back unanswered. They seem to slip into some pseudo-defensive posture and try to ride Hasek’s skills to victory. I swear if we get our shit together and play a full 60 minutes then we’d be unstoppable. I was very impressed by the Hawk’s play though (after the little league team left and the real players showed up).
Oh dear lord… the Mighty Ducks snapped their losing streak by beating the Rangers? Nobody ever said the hockey gods lack a sense of humor. Too funny.
What, nobody has some smack talking to hand out after last night’s games? Well I’ll start. Go Wings! Way to douse those Flames. Nice to see Brett Hull showing up for the games too, he was killing me in my fantasy league.
It looks like I spoke too soon about the Penguins, as they managed to hand out a 6-0 bung raping of the Devils. So sad to see last year’s Cup finalists fall that far.
Isn’t there supposed to be this ongoing “Wednesday ESPN Hockey Night” thing going on? There’s only 3 games being played tonight, and ESPN isn’t showing any of them. I’m having withdrawals! Time to head down to the cable office and order my Center Ice package…
Skydive - I apologize for not showing up but I have been laid low for the past couple of days and will be for a few more with a badly pulled groin muscle. I can picture the guys grabbing themselves and going OUCH!
So it looks like despite the fact the ice is going in across the street the shinny is going to have to wait a few weeks. To that I say FUCK! I’ve been looking forward to lacing them up for weeks.
Anyways, a big heart thank you is due to the Wings for trashing the Flames as the Flame’s loss last night and the Oilers win tonight puts the Oilers in top spot in the Northwest. After a pathetic showing against Colorado the Oilers really came out smoking tonight and Markennen, (besides giving Salo a much deserved night off) ended up getting a shutout in his first NHL game. What a great way to debut huh?
And I have no idea how I injured myself… I figure I did it while bowling on Sunday night or during some wild and crazy monkey sex with the little lady.
Ahh…Blues win their 3rd in a row…which would be a bit more promissing if it didn’t come right after a 5 game losing streak, oh well.
Pavol Demitra…one of most underated scorer in the NHL…me thinks so…
MY Habs are now unbeaten in their last six games as they split two points tonight with the Islanders. I’m thinking that Slip isn’t coming back just so I can’t have as much fun saying “I told you so”.
Edmonton ended the Kings four game winning streak tonight, Salo played 45 minutes of shutout hockey before Eric Bellanger flipped one past him in the third but by then the Oilers had already put three past Storr at the other end of the rink.
All in all, it was a good night for hockey as the Flames went down to the Stars 3-0 tonight.
[nitpick]
The Kings had a two game winning streak and a four game unbeaten streak. And when Belanger scored that made it 2-1. The Oilers eventually scored in the open net to make the final 3-1.
[/nitpick]
I hate Dominik Hasek.
I hate Brett Hull.
I hate Daren McCarty.
I hate Chris Chelios.
I am not too fond of Luc Robitaille.
I hate Sergei Fedorov.
I wish Brendan Shanahan played for someone else (like the Habs).
I really wish Steve Yzerman played for someone else (especially like the Habs).
I hate Tomas Holmstrom.
I have a soft spot for Kris Draper, 'cuz he broke into the League with the Jets. sigh
I really hate the nerve Detroit has in calling itself “Hockeytown” - the Avs buy players & championships the same way, but you don’t see them with that kind of cheek.
In short, I hate the Dead Things.
whew
Had to be said.
