11-5. ELEVEN to FIVE. The capitals can’t suck THAT badly, can they?
Eleven. Isn’t that the number of time zones in the former soviet union?

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I pulled up the sports page this morning, Ottawa couldn’t have beaten the Caps 11-5 could they? I thought it had to be a misprint.
Holy fuck, what a whupping.
I’ve been crying all morning. Alas my poor Capitals suffered, perhaps, the worst loss in recent history. As one reporter pointed out, the Caps snapped their scoring slump, but at the cost of perhaps the worst defensive showing in the league. I am very bitter about this. Our defensive core is very thin. It used to be the highlight of our club. Johanson is gone. Witt is up north. Klee is injured. Reekie might be saying goodbye soon. Our defensive forwards disappeared last night. Chris Simon scored a goal, but maybe landed one hit (besides the two fights he was in) Konowalchuk is gone. Sacco stood around and watched Hossa blow by him. FOR CHRISTSAKE THE SENATORS SCORED A SHORTHANDED GOAL!?!?! But that’s not the worst of it. Right before that goal, there was another breakaway. I swear I have never seen such a pathetic defensive effort. I’ve seen higher scores, but not like that.
Kolzig was pulled at the end of the first period. Why? Not because of the five goals that got behind him, but because he was so frustrated by the lack of support he had given up any hope of winning at the end of 20 minutes. They should have pulled him after the 3rd goal. But instead despite his obvious mounting rage Wilson kept him in. God that was a piss poor game.
Even for the Senators it was bad. They let in 5 goals to a weaker team (at least for the night…) Both sides where playing run and gun and nobody seemed to care about anything other than padding their personal stats.
Mark my words there will be some changes in the next few days. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chris Simon and/or Joe Reekie dealt to another team for more defensive minded players (not that Reekie isn’t defensive minded, but his game is off.)
Despite last night’s horrible, no good, very bad game I still have to say…
GO CAPS!

Blah blah patrick got his 200th win with the Avs blah blah blah
Patrick is a steller 3-8-1 this year. his club is 5-8-1. What a champ!
Seriously though, how obvious is it that they could really use Forsberg right about now? Man if Sakik goes down, they might not even make the playoffs at this rate. mu ha ha ha
Chaosopher - the thought of the Avs not making the playoffs this year just gave me a wicked smile. Thanks for making my day! hehe
2-2…
2 To Freakin’ 2!!!
Well we sure tied them good… and i had all this perfect gloating lined up. I was ready to laugh and make endless jokes about the crappiness of the hawks. Then the blahhawks just go and ruin all my fun… don’t they know they’re sposed to lose? not tie, lose!! How do i gloat to a tie?!!
um, er, uh, oh i know!
WHAT A COMEBACK!! Down by 2 and the flames come back to tie it up with 4 mins left! Horray!!
Hawks Suck dirty sheep testicles!!!
I just wish the Kings would decide to completely suck so I wouldn’t have to get so aggravated. How many one-goal losses is that…10? They outplay Dallas yet are down 3-0, come back to tie it, then give a fourth goal just to make sure I am not happy. This team is better than their record, but so what, they certainly seem to be lacking grit, like I saw in Calagary when we played them.
Maybe it’s time to face the fact that The Blackhawks Are A Good Team this year.
I know, it’s hard. I’m not saying they’re going to win the Cup, I’m not even saying they’re number one (they’re not…yet)…they’re just leaps and bounds better than last year.
Who doesn’t?

I SCORED MY FIRST EVER HAT TRICK ON MY BEER LEAGUE TONIGHT!!!
Hey, nobody said it was “The NHL thread.”
jarbabyj - I hate to be the one to write this but…
Did anyone else see the Oilers dismantle the Blackhawks tonight? When the game started I told my friend that the Oilers would win 4-2, he thought it would be 3-2 for the Oilers.
Were we ever wrong, when it was 5-1 for the Oilers going into the third I revised my guess to say that the Oilers would win 7-3 thinking that the Blackhawks might come out fighting in the third. The Oilers bagged two more to make this their highest scoring game this season but the Hawks couldn’t muster anything.
The Oilers just pummelled the ever loving shit out of Chicago from the get go.
But this win was bittersweet as Ryan Smith went into the boards early in the first period and never returned to the game. Word is that he will be out at least 10-12 weeks with a broken ankle. When I saw him go in I just cringed and knew that it was bad.
This is a major loss to the Oilers and Canada’s Olympic team and I hope that he’s back on the ice really soon. Knowing Smith he’ll be back much sooner than expected.
Man, I’m suprised they suck. That Luc Robitaille can rack up some points. Oh wait. He’s not with the Kings anymore.
Sorry man. I can feel your pain. Seriously. I’ve been a Wings fan since day 1 and on day 1, we sucked. I remember missing the playoffs over and over. And then we got Steve Y and it looked liked we were going to start smoking. Don’t forget that we got bounced EARLY in the playoffs after beating the NHL records for wins in a season.
Following the team of your choice can be painful.
But, uh, GO WINGS. we are kicking ass now.
I would like to nominate Roberto Luongo as the NHL player of the week and I know what you’re thinking… why would Feynn vote for the Panther’s goalie when his Habs have won three straight at home and Theodore got a shutout on Saturday night in a 1-0 OT win against the said Panthers? Wasn’t Salo just incredible against Chicago the other night?
Well… Karl Dykhuis of Montreal said it well after he scored the winning goal with 65 seconds tremaining in the OT period.
“…that’s the best performance I’ve ever seen by an opposing netminder.”
Luongo stopped 44 shots in regulation and had it not been for Florida’s lack of offense they would have won the game.
He deserved to win this one. Good thing for me… he didn’t.
Quit your belly-aching Tie! You took a real cheap shot. And now what? You going to get all pissy if your penalty was more severe than this one? Give me a break.
I wonder if he’ll cry on tv again over the whole thing.
*of course, I’m far more willing to call him a big cry baby on these forums than face-to-face *
It wasn’t an elbow, it was a vicious butt-ending to the face, causing a severe concussion. And if anybody’s gonna be crying, it will be Wiemer, if Domi ever gets hold of him.
Darcy Tucker is one of my favorite players despite the jersey he wears. His hit on Bure was completely legitimate. Not only that, but as a stand-up guy, he realized what he was getting himself into by hitting a star, and he stood up to it. He and Ferrence went at it, and, frankly, Tucker got a bit of come-uppance for his hit. All above board.
Wiemer’s actions were on a solid par with what Domi did to Niedermayer - away from the play, hit to the head causing a concussion. The fact that he so obviously butt-ended Tucker better earn him at least 8 if not 10 games. Not only was it bone-headed, it was gutless as well.

Byron Dafoe says the Bruins gave the Habs a gift tonight… I way I would look at is that the Habs just decided that they were taking the two points and did it after being down 2-0 with 7 minutes left in the second period. Three unanswered goals in a little over a period might indicate that Dafoe might have been the gift giver in this matchup.
The Habs are 4-1-0-1 in their last six.
On the other side of the country the Oilers made Doug Weight’s “homecoming” a sad one as the Oil stoned the Blues 2-0. Salo has now tied Curtis Joseph’s shutout record of 14 as an Oiler and I believe that’s his fourth of the year.
That $60,000,000 payroll of the Blues didn’t seem to mean shit to our local boys… I don’t think you can buy heart with any amount of money and the Oilers have that in abundance. When Smith returns to the lineup he should expect to see the Oilers at the top of their division. They are presently in third place overall with 30 points and on a tear.
All in all, a good day in the NHL.
Now… Slip… don’t think I’ve converted over worshipping the same devils you do but could you say an extra prayer to the hockey gods so that the Leafs stomp the ever loving shit out of Buffalo? And if Varada is back in the lineup do you think Domi might give him a nudge for me? Thanks a bunch.
Last night I was watching a DVD and forgot that the Red Wings vs Predators game was on the television. But I heard that the Wings gave the Predators a proper spanking last night. I wished I had watched the game because Brendan Shanahan got a hat trick during the game. I think he might be the leader in goals for the whole league now, but I’ll have to look it up to be sure.
Damn!
The Sabres ended their four game losing skid by beating the Leafs.
Waitaminute… that’s not all that bad.
