By the way, what does the CH on Montreal’s sweaters stand for? I heard it was for Centre Hice, but I think it means Clown Hockey.

Although you’re a Torontonian heretic, I am willing to enlighten you regarding this question. It stands for Club de Hockey Canadien.

From the Official Site :

For the whole story, go here. And do not further tarnish the Holy Flannel’s name, my son.

Out of the mouth of babies, the truth will issue forth. Hear and repent your wicked ways, O ye of little faith !

I’m surrounded.

Is there no one who will come to my defence?

I recall reading about Roy’s burning hatred of the puck…some would go as far as to describe him as bordering on insane…

but when you watch him play, you don’t see any of that rage. Every movement has a purpose. There are no extra motions. Clean and calm, smooth and crisp, Patrick Roy is the perfect model on how to keep goal well.

Slip - What makes you think we’ll have to dredge this up at the end of the season?

This thread has the potential to run through the hockey season and we know just how long that is…

By then I’ll have you singing the praises of Les Glorieux from the rooftops…

Have a Happy Thanksgiving buddy.

Same to you, my friend.

I gotta get some sleep. My alarm clock (that’s the four year old) goes off pretty early.

Yes, it’s nice to see them win a couple of games again. But we were spoiled back in the early 80’s, weren’t we.

Two words: Red Wings

BTW: Those were the Islanders’ 998th and 999th wins in their history. Could be number 1000 on Wednesday…

Thill-

It is indeed nice to see one’s favoured team win some games especially when things have gone badly for what seems so long.

The Islanders, how do I hate thee. Let me count the ways.

1980, my Habs were on their way to winning their fifth consecutive Stanley Cup but… those damn Islanders had to spoil the party.

1983 - Those young Oilers who’s names are now legend faced the mighty Islanders and got their asses kicked, they were swept 4-0. There would be revenge coming for the next season as the Oilers returned the favour and put an end to that dynasty in 1984.

The 80’s belonged to the Islanders and Oilers, the only other teams that held the Cup through that decade were the Flames and the Habs.

I can really see why so many people hate the Canadiens, they were the team to beat in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. They played for the cup 24 times in that period and won it 18 of those times. That’s fucking incredible.

I understand Slip’s hatred for my Habs, they were the guys stealing Toronto’s thunder and the battles between these teams are the stuff of legend.

I commend everyone on behaving so well, if Leaf’s fans and Hab’s fans can get along anything is possible.

But I have one little rant in me…

Donald Brashear, you are a fucking goon. Another game misconduct? What a huge fucking surprise. I dare you to come and try that shit here. Laraque will make you his personal bitch.

That’s true, and they’ll win more than a couple this season. The Islanders have a history of making freaky comebacks when you least expect it. I think they’re one of only two teams who came back to win after being down 3-0 in the playoffs. Go Isles!

All of these posts with no mention of the Wild? C’mon they’re off to a great start 1-0-1-0 (did I get that right, I hate the “no losers in overtime rule”). The wild are clicking at a 2 goals a game pace and with Jacque behind the bench that could be enough!

All right, seriously, I know they probably don’t have a chance. I also realize they aren’t the most exciting team (offensively), but I love good defense and you have to admit that is Jacque’s forte.

Give them a couple more seasons and we’ll see you guys in the playoffs.

How about the fact that there are hockey teams in Anaheim, San Jose and Atlanta, but none in Milwaukee. Yes, I realize those markets have larger populations, but doesn’t it seem to make sense that there would be a larger hockey-watching population in Milwaukee than in places that never see snow?

Well, they did something today…they got their asses kicked by the B’s.

Oh, and would somebody tell Toronto that it’s Leaves?

Well I did say they needed to shore up their defense. And besides they already filled up their scoring quota for their first three games of the season when they beat the Devils. (Yes I’m bullshiting)

Get off our backs, Fly. We got a special dispensation from Dan Quayle to use Leafs.

Expect to see some fireworks tonight if Bob Wren suits up against the Mighty Sitting Ducks tonight.

I live a whole 20 minutes from The Pond, but Disney. I think the word Disney should be considered a swear word, we should have to cover the ears of children when “Disney” is said. Cheap bastards. Won’t put a good team on the ice. They also own the Angels, and as a diehard Angels fan, I will just have to wait until they sell to someone who cares about baseball.

And the Kings, ticket prices since they moved to the Staples Center are obscene. I actually haven’t been to the staple center, but do watch on TV and they make me mad. They can’t pass, the puck will be passed to a teammate who is right in front of the net and it will sail to the other side of the ice. There should be a penalty for that kind of play.

So I will just stick to my Long Beach Ice Dogs. Minor league hockey is great. The team looks good this year, and they have made the playoff for all 6 years of their existence. And they have the fun mid-period entertainment. Plus there was a couple of pigeons living in the arena. So in the middle of the game, they would fly across and provide a humorous addition to the experience.

Don’t worry man, I’ll cover your back. Long-time Leafs fan here (masochism runs in the family). I just had to chime in to celebrate tonight’s roasting of the Ducks (6-1). Who said Thanksgiving is just for turkey?

As for Les Habs, I like them. They make the Leafs look good.

Hodge

Hodge, where you been? These guys have been ragging me since that francophoney Feynn opened this thread for the express purpose of tormenting me.

Notice how quiet he is now? We fixed the Quacks but good, didn’t we?

QUIET?! ME?!

SlipIn my own defense, I was in a turkey coma for most of yesterday. We had enough people here to form two hockey teams with two lines each. Ours was a full house.

So the Leafs went on a Duck hunt and it looks like an ass kicking of major proportions happened last night. The Ducks got plucked but good. Anaheim is looking to have a bad year and they are off to a crappy start.

Anaheim visits Montreal tonight and although I am not a francophone I can watch it on CBC (french). If the Habs lose (god forbid) I will be swearing fluently en francais.

Phoenix finally put some pucks past Turik in Calgary last night and gave Calgary thier first loss in ot. Perhaps there will actually be a battle of Alberta to be played out this year. The game is so much better when you know the team you’re playing can actually play. Calgary sucked ass last year and couldn’t win a game against the Oilers.

deb I think that ticket prices in many places border on the obscene. Our ticket prices here are not bad, we pay in Canadian dollars so decent seats run about $20.00 U.S. There isn’t a bad seat at Skyreach either and as everyone knows we have the best damn ice in the league here. I may have to sell one of my children to get seats for the Edmonton Montreal game coming up but if I didn’t, what kind of fan would I be?

Hodge Welcome to the thread, we can always use more victims here…

Finally, where is my hockey smiley? I want a little guy with no front teeth.

Feynn comes in dancing his happy dance and looks around…

Hey… where’d everybody go?

I thought there would be some partying going on in here with the Habs and Oilers picking up two points each…

detop??

Slip??

Damn! And I was going to buy a round.

Well, here’s the lowdown on tonight’s action.

Salo racks up his 11th shutout as an Oiler as the Oil defeat Chicago 1-0, this means the Blah Hawks have gone scoreless for 146 minutes and 2 seconds.

Hackett plays 55 minutes of shutout hockey to see that the Habs beat the Flighty Schmucks 3-1.

Odie has to be pleased, the Sens routed Carolina 6-2 … wait… if you play Carolina it should be an automatic 2 points.

And just because we couldn’t have all the Canadian teams win tonight Colorado had to go and beat the Canucks 5-4, they won by the skin of their teeth it seems.

I’ll finish my beer and leave you with the words of that Canadian philosopher and master of duct tape, Red Green…

“Keep your stick on the ice.”

Feynn dances out of the room…
