The Hunter Biden Investigation {thread started in 2019}, Hunter Pardoned on December 1, 2024

That seems about right. Not great for Hunter, but seems to fit the crime.

Did anyone ever explain why he wanted a gun in the first place?

reporting is that hunter will have a written responce to the verdict. he has left the courthouse.

the judge did not set a sentencing date, it should be in about 4 months.

Law enforcement can now show that this was not selective prosecution by going after every single person who checked “no” on that form, but had used drugs at some point. As the prosecution pointed out, they don’t have to prove anyone used drugs on the day they checked “no”. They don’t even have to prove they used drugs in the MONTH before they checked “no”.

So it’s now open season on anyone who had ever used illegal drugs and checked “no” on that form. And marijuana is federally an illegal drug.

Police resources should be dedicated to tracking down the millions of lawbreakers. After all, they went all out here, finding the dumpster diver, reviewing tapes etc. Heck, some murders don’t get this much investigative power.

So… have at it, law enforcement! There are MILLIONS of criminals out there just waiting to be caught.

But he’s got a Secret Service detail! Doesn’t that mean they can’t possibly put him in jail? Or that it would be -gasp- problematic?

Note that Joe Biden isn’t putting out unhinged posts on social media and isn’t calling for threats to the jurors or judge. I do hope he gives a pardon on Jan 7 of next year.

Technically, he could commute his son’s sentence without violating his assertion that he wouldn’t grant him a pardon

As long as he waits until after the election…

No opinion on the legal merits, and while it’s hard to argue that a conviction for his son helps Biden electorally, it does provide the opportunity to present a very clear and distinct contrast to Trump’s response to his conviction and other legal trials: “I respect the courts and rule of law, even when it resulted in the conviction of my son, whom I love very much. My opponent has no respect at all for the rule of law. He stands for a lawless, cronyist, and corrupt rule based on the whims and moods of an unstable criminal.”

On the one hand I kind of wanted a not guilty just to stick it to the jerks who drove this idiocy.

On the other hand, FHB. You’re a screwup who used your dad’s good name to enrich yourself, do drugs, and just generally be a worthless drain on society. Then you decide to buy a gun. You struggle for years with addiction, don’t actually have your affairs in order at all, and a GUN is the thing you need?

Oh, and thanks for forgetting to pickup your computer, dipshit. Maybe you’ll get to enjoy some time in prison and learn how to not be an idiot.

Did Joe Biden actually say that? If not, I agree with the sentiment, and he should say it.

There always is another election down the road. Bill Clinton pardoning Marc Rich, on his last day in office, is still probably hurting the Democratic Party brand a tiny bit.

While I am generally for more grants of clemency, they should come to the President as a recommendation from the Office of the Pardon Attorney, and not be politically timed.

And other people got away with the same misdeed, if that is the idea, is a terrible reason to grant clemency.

Democrats should be showing that we respect jury verdicts as you know who does not.

It’s my attempt at armchair political strategizing.

Hey, this is AMERICA! Don’t mess with our freedoms!

No, but today, he did say this:

I do find it refreshing that so many right wingers are celebrating strict enforcement of gun regulations.

a bit of jury info.

last night when they left it was 6-6, then this morning it was 11-1, then they got to 12-0. it hinged on the term “knowingly” .

this is per cnn reporting from an unnamed juror.

Joe Biden needs to propose “Hunter’s Law,” a common-sense package of gun reform that features increased measures to keep guns away from addicts, including more money to catch and convict current offenders.

As I am in favor of gun possession, by cocaine users, remaining illegal, this sounds good. If Hunter’s appeal gets to the Supreme Court, Alito should be a sure vote to uphold gun control.

It should be interesting to see the story fade from the front pages. It is of no consequence to the nation as a whole, and I assume it won’t take long for people to realize Hunter wasn’t part of the White House staff or involved government at any level.

I hate to go check X to see everyone gloating; no one wants to be an addict, he deserves sympathy.

Claire McCaskill, on MSNBC, speculated that this does help Biden’s electoral chances, not that the President would be pleased. That, of course, safely assumes Biden will continue to respect the outcome. Think of what the reaction would be had he been found not guilty, she asked. However illogical, many (including non-MAGAs) would have viewed it as proof of an unfair system, one where Trump gets convicted but not the son of the President.

He said that he appreciates the support he received but he’s disappointed by the outcome.

That’s the same thing, isn’t it?
