OK people what the hell do you think you are doing??? Stop trying to rationalize and explain my purely 100% emotional, no logical thought given to it what so ever hate for rap. I’ve listened to some of it, I hate it all, it sucks - all of it accept for 3-4 artists I mentioned above. And if I don’t know where rap really came from then bite me (I know this is a arrogant but I am having on of em I care what ParentalAdvisory has to say
days and he says I am arrogant) it sucks too much for me to waste time on figuring out why it turned out that way. So now here is what we are going to do: rap lovers - go listen to your radio, people with good taste - let us continue to bash rap till our fingers fall off from typing too much.
I had a nice reply written about the difference in appreciating good rap (usually called hip-hop) vs appreciating other music styles, but the SD Hamsters were hungry tonight and they ate it.
Anyway, part of the problem is this when you say “rap lovers - go listen to your radio.” Real rap lovers can’t typically hear their music on the radio, at least not in my city. They’ll get lucky every once in a while when a new Outkast song comes out, but other than that they’re stuck with the same 50 Cent (sorry, I think he’s overrated) and Lil John crap that everyone else has to put up with.
Oh, I’m so telling MC Hawking.
I’m a youth.
I can’t stand rap crap.
And no, I haven’t heard the “real” stuff that’s supposedly good.
But I see it this way. There’s also a current trend of fake ass punk songs out there. So, pop punk vs pop rap. Why do I like the fake pop punk stuff more? BECAUSE I DON’T LIKE RAP CRAP!!!
60,000 B. C.: Og, a Neanderthal hunter-gatherer, accidentally jabs a spear through his foot and lets loose with a fifteen-minute barrage of curse words. He will be forever known as “the father of rap music.”

I have a very discrete taste in music. My favorite types of music are without lyrics, like classical, jazz, etc. Now when you have a genre that’s completely dependent on lyrics, like rap, I’m bound to not like it. But the “good” rap I don’t really mind, like every other lyrical song out there, I can tolerate it as ambient background noise.
The rap I really hate of course is the angry, angsty, profanity-riddled rap. I honestly can’t imagine how anyone can enjoy that. I mean wow, someone cussing wildly and yelling at The Man™ while talking about hitting women and having sex with their grandmother…this isn’t music! It’s just obnoxious rambling. This is also the type of rap that its fans have to make sure EVERYONE knows they listen to by playing it really really loud in their car or room.
Punk was music for people who could not play, rap is music for people wo can not play OR sing.
Rap was born, lived and died with the record “fear of a black planet” by Public Enemy.
I can not stand rap “music” and I WILL NOT be exposed to it.
When rap is the background for a commercial I change the channel making a mental note to avoid the advertiser (they are “on probation” for a while unless it continues to happen).
When I am at a store and it comes on I either turn it off (I love being tall!) or I go away.
I also feel the same way about “pop punk”, U2 and most country (the special olympics of music).

I can’t stand rap either, it all sounds the same. Outkast, though, is pretty good, I must admit.
Anyone up for a I hate punk “music” thread thread?
Probably stating the obvious here but for each person there will be good rap songs and bad rap songs. Same as there will be good and bad rock, jazz, blues and funk songs.
That’s not metal. [url=www.blackmetalradio.com]This is metal.*
I hate, DEEPLY DESPISE rap, but please do a freestyle rap for me right now, somehow in response to this post. Having tried, I can admit it is not easy, though that doesn’t make rap sound any better to my ears.
So? Few people would call Einstürzende Neubauten “music,” but that doesn’t stop me from gleefully peeling plaster with tracks like Krieg in den Städten.
Depends on whether you’re talking about old school '70s punk or the annoying pop punk trend that’s all the rage nowadays.
…I shouldn’t try to do vB tags late at night, without looking at what I put down.
Okay. I stopped reading at about half of the posts.
My take on [c]rap music.
Personally I hate it. Hip/hop and rap is just terrible music. Generally, it is one [or more] angry black men, yelling, about their bitches and ho’z, and how they used to be in the ghetto and now they ride in bentleys with 20’s. Its just stupid. The music part of it… Well, some songs have some music with actual credibility, but most is just stupid computer generated beats. Whenever I hear some [white, i mind you] kid listening to [c]rap with their headphones, I hear the SAME exact fucking beat, about 4 out of 5 times. Its just terrible, have some originality.
Now to say I hate rap music is correct. However im not totally a hyppie[crit]. Some artists (their actually artists… because they actually write Ok songs, and have music that is not the same as every rap song) I can stand their music. Andre Nickatina is bearable, and Deltron 3030 is decent. Now i’m not saying I go buy their CD’s (or download some songs ;)), but I dont moan in pain when my friends put in a cd of theirs.
Other rap(or relatively close) groups/bands, would have to be beastie boys and linkin park. Linkin park is mainly metallish rock, but it has lotsa rap in it… but it is a good blend. The beastie boys were just great.
(Popular) rap is terrible, as is most punk, rock, metal, or other kinds of music. However I just dont get some guy behind a mic unmelodically rhyming to a looping beat…
And just so you know, I enjoy rock music. The Real kind of music. With other genres including punk, which, and im not being a hyppie, sucks. The music is just four chord wonders that I could play after a couple months of playing guitar, the lyrics are generally about being lovesick or hating the world, and the vocals are usually raw and terrible. However some punk is good, such as old green day, yea, before dookie they DID have CD’s!
You want some music… check out AFI, Thrice, Coheed & Cambria, or strung out. The is real music.
One of my African friend’s (actually from Africa) put it like this:
“Rap is the musical equivalent of the average American black person’s desire to be the loudest, most audacious, person in the room.”
He also went on to say that most all Africans look down on so-called African-Americans (he said that term with obvious distaste) the same way that Spaniards look down on Mexicans.
As long as it’s restricted to being played inside your headphones, I don’t mind rap a bit.
Now, when some asshole pulls up beside me in a $200 car, with a $4000 stereo system that vibrates my pistol off the front seat, then, I agree, rap sucks like my high school librarian on vodka tonics.
I’ve seen this exact same thread on every forum I’ve ever visited.
White middle-class person: ‘I hate ©rap! It’s not music! It’s just bad poetry set to repetitive beats! It all sounds the same! I like (insert rap artist here, probably The Beastie Boys or De La Soul), but the rest is crap! Blah Blah Blah!’
60 % of replies ‘Ino d00d, mainstream rap sucks but there is a lot of good underground hip-hop out there, you should check out Common/The Roots/De La Soul etc. etc.’
40 % of replies ‘Ino d00d, ©rap music sux! They glorify criminal behaviour, it’s sexist and OMG THEY DON’T EVEN PLAY INSTRUMENTS!!1’ (Wherein the other 60% will no doubt reccomend The Roots for a rap group that plays instruments)
Bah!
When it first came out, the Run DMC, Tone Loc and Rappers Delight type songs were different, fun and danceable.
But after living across the street from a teen hang out for about 3 years (up until recently), and constantly being forced to endure the cement building shaking bass from every little teen brat with a “bouncin’” stereo system installed in his car. I can’t STAND the sound of one single rap bass note.
I hate the arrogant, angry “I’m so hip and cool” accents and voices of the rap “artists”. I hate the woman/white/establishment/decency bashing in the lyrics.
I hate the “Hate” of it. It all just sounds so over-the-top violent and angry.
Now, once in a while, I’ll hear one that is fun, melodic, upbeat and musical, like back in the “old” days. But not knowing the genre and all its different artists, perhaps those are more the hip hop songs and artists, which, unlike rap, I DO (for the most part) like.
One I recently caught (and liked) while hitting “scan” on my radio dial was called (I think), Shake a tailfeather. Was that rap? Or hip hop? How 'bout the Quad City DJs? Hip hop??? (good dance songs).
Cute. Kinda Sexy, without being quite so demeaning toward women (at least I didn’t hear anything that could be demeaning, maybe I just didn’t understand it all).
Yeah, like someone else said, it’s not a fad, after all it’s been around since the 80s. But I sure wish this newer meaner version were, I’d like IT to go away.
Snoop dogg? I remember hearing something from him once. It was so absolutely VILE (every other word the F word and worse, just nasty, excessively graphic sexual lyrics). If that’s “good rap”. I’ll hang on to my opinion that rap sucks.
