I was a total sloth yesterday. I read my Kindle, I napped, I read, I napped, I read…get the idea? Two of our friends dropped by and we fed them some Christmas Day leftover dinner. They stayed for awhile and then left.
After they left, I picked up where I left off; I read, I napped, I read, I napped.
Twas a really nice day for me.
Beautiful new tank denizens, FCM.
Today we’re actually talking about leaving the house! Gasp! I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle the excitement!
Ooooh…rosie, you’ll have to come back later and give us all the juicey details!
I have joined Taters on the sloth seats, in fact since I’ve had manflu I have been a sloth for several days. I’m still coughing quite a lot but most of the symptoms of the dreaded manflu have gone now, so I think I might get dressed and gasp leave the house tomorrow. Actually, I do have to go out tomorrow as we need to stock up on foodstuffs for the moglings as they’re off to stay with one of our friends tomorrow for almost a week while we’re up in Scotland.
So tomorrow there will be a little bit of shopping and a lot of grumbling about crowds and the increased levels of stupidity out there in town.
The only productive thing I’ve done today is write stuff on my 2010 calendar, and book tickets for us and a friend to see Cirque du Soleil in June. I think that’s quite enough activity for one day, don’t you?
We’re still eating leftover capon too…I will be glad when it’s all gone!
a friend from long ago with whom I’ve reconnected via facebook has been telling me about her SO’s friend - a guy smart enough to hold an interesting conversation, but not so nerdy as to be void of any knowledge of pop culture (IOW - just like me :D) She has been talking each of us up to the other, and showed us each other’s photos - we’re both looking forward to this meeting. I promise to report fully upon my return - unless, as my brother put it, said blind date sweeps me off my feet to a villa in Bermuda.
I am doing nothing today except playing around on my computer and stuff, unless I decide I want to do something else. It’s my Saturday, and it was a long week! I have earned the right, I think.
We went to one of the two closest breakfast places this morning, and on Sunday, they don’t do their full menu any longer. Instead, they offer a few omlettes and a “breakfast bar” which is pretty sad for $10.99. Their menu is not bad, their bar is awful. We won’t be going back on Sundays any more… ugh.
Then we ran by the grocery store and got some steaks and salads and 'shrooms for our supper. We also ran to Lowe’s and got a shelf for the bathroom above the commode and a hook for the back of the door. Both are installed. I declare the bathroom officially DONE!!!
Second load of laundry in the machine. I’m about to start the curtains. I’ll stick to daughter’s preference of different ones for each month. I don’t think she’d approve of heart-shaped Celtic snowflakes. Or maybe she would??
Beautiful, sunny day. Cold and a little breezy, but still sunny. And warm enough for more snow to melt. Yay!
Taters, pace yourself, girl! Sheesh, you don’t want to get a cramp!!!
Howdy Y’all! Back from churchification and Chinese buffet. The Schezwan chicken is sneaky. While I was eatin’ it, I kept thinkin’, it’s not that spicy. After returnin’ to da cave, I had to drink a whole bottle of water. It snuck up on me!
MOOOOOOM I think daughter would love the three in one curtains. So much more practical!
Taters slow down! I mean, thinkin’ about leavin’ the house? That’s just crazy!
Woohoo - drinks on LiLi!!! Very exciting! What book is it?
I just finished making all 3 pairs of curtains. They are very cute and my new sewing machine is very very nice. No tension issues, no skipped stitches, no problems, just nice sewing. Yay!
Steaks are marinating for supper. I’ve got to peel some N.O.T. to cook up with some onions, then saute some shrooms, then maybe cook up some other veggies. We’re going to have a nice dinner. Which is a good thing, since I’ve been grazing on cookies and candies since breakfast. Not the smartest thing to do, but I’m an adult - I can do what I want.
Can’t believe I have to go back to work tomorrow. I also can’t believe how filthy my windows are. The sun is trying to shine thru the one next to me and all I see is crud and streaks and cobwebs and nose prints (critter noses, not mine) - guess I should do windows, huh?
About 15 years ago I saw some Christmas ornaments that looked like carousel horses on a garbage pile after Christmas. I thought maybe someone had put the wrong box at the curb so I went up and knocked – and they were indeed being tossed. Carried them home and stashed them in the attic. We had them laying around and since they were a bit large for our tree we decided to go eBay with them. Ten of them went for $750 combined roughly. Smithsonian limited editions.
Odd and strange don’t bother me at all anymore.
MIL update: Muvver is still at the hospital. They seem mostly to be looking at her liver; the thought is some of the cardiac drugs could be throwing her function off. IE - she’s trapped in the realm of further testing. Her hearing is shot - although she won’t admit that - so I’m in touch with my boss to see if I can take some comp time to hover and listen during the week while they keep her. Odds are good I can ----- I may never admit this again but the dude I work for is pretty cool with things like that.
healing thoughts for your MiL heading your way, Ruble
No Caribbean condo for me. Not yet, at least. He’s very nice, but the late lunch was shorter than I would have liked because he had an elsewhere to be. My friend will report in later what, if anything, was said about me. Worse to worse, I made a friend.
Play it coy BioRosie. Don’t agree to run away to Bermuda until he takes you to dinner at a place with tablecloths and real dinnerware. After all, one can be easy but one should never be cheap.
Jake on the book LiLi! One person’s trash and all that there stuff.
Ok I have cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen. I have dusted the bedrooms, livin’ room, dinin’ room and study. Now I’m takin’ a break. Next up is vacuumin’ and moppin’ and da cave shall be spiffed. I got the cleanin’ bug a couple of hours ago.
Since I had Chinese for dindin, I figure fried apple pie, divinity and perhaps a brownie will be a good dindin. All those goodies must be eaten before they spoil. It’s sinful to waste food. What? You justify it your way and I’ll justify it my way. So There!
It’s a first edition, first Canadian printing of Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson. Signed and everything. Perfect Canadian editions go for $1600. Mine has a small worn spot on one edge. I dunno. I’ll look into dealers and see what I can get for it.
At the bookstore publishers were always sending uncorrected proofs, first editions, not for resale copies- there’s probably still a hip-high bookcase full of them. Most of 'em are crap (Yet another first novel about a three-headed blind albino lesbian living in Newfoundland!) but I’ve gotten some good cookbooks and some novels from the stack.
