A point Josh Marshall from Talking Points Memo (my favorite political news site, highly recommended) makes over and over again is that all power is unitary. That means that if you damage someone’s power in one place, you’re damaging it everywhere. This “pullout” of Bovino and at least some agents may not be substantively a big deal (or maybe it will be), but symbolically it’s huge, IMO - it’s another TACO moment. It’s Trump backing down because of the heat of the aftermath of the most recent ICE murder. And it’s a victory for the citizens of Minneapolis, which will do amazing things for the morale of the next targets of Trump’s attempted tyranny.
Came in to post the Atlantic story as well. I’m seeing on the 50501 Facebook page that Kristi Noem is on her way out also, but no confirmation of this yet. Fingers crossed.

Not to belittle Li’l Oberscheißeführer Bovino further, but his demotion proves he really came up short in Trump’s eyes. Small victory. Very tiny but I’m glad his fascist jacket (size: Nazi Youth) is finally being hung up on the itty-bitty hook he got it down from.
Maybe someone on the inside told Trump that all of this killing Americans in the street is going to count against him for the next Nobel Peace prize.
Or the one that matters really matters, the FIFA peace prize
Based on today’s press conference it definitely seems like Noem and Miller are getting thrown under the bus.
I don’t have high hopes that this is actually a win. What I see is, Noem and Bovino have failed to provoke an insurrection and now someone else gets a turn.
Alex Pretti’s murder was premeditated by an administratiok that wanted to provoke an armed conflict. If it had, even the fence sitters who are troubled by the murder would have said “I don’t think the murder was right but this reaction is unwarranted.” As it played out, they got bad press and no armed conflict, so mission failed for the Nazis in charge.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, except that all the Trump loyalists and sycophants are all the same. Trump is, as always, backpedaling on the Pretti shooting, and deflecting blame. Bovina just had the bad luck to get on the wrong side of the media in an extreme situation, but they’re all scum. Right up to the top. If puppy-killer Noem loses her job, too, that would be nice, but it won’t be over until the corruption and ignorance at the very top is gone. Congress finally needs to act.
Yep, they’ll just find a different city where they think the public will be more reactive to the Gestapo, and use it as the excuse to impose martial law in time for the next elections.
Let’s not forget that Trump and Vance were saying the same crap, and seem to be evading responsibility for it. And I’m sure Noem acted on Trump’s orders.
This point needs to get hammered home repeatedly going into the midterms. This is Trump’s ICE causing terror.
And related to that, for whatever reason no matter how many times Trump throws such scum under the bus, more will immediately step forwards to be the next candidate in line for bus-throwing.
But so on point! Attack a region know for their harsh winters in winter.

Yes, but it has to be sustained, continuous protest. It can’t be sporadic. The No Kings protests, for instance, got only about 2% of the people out, and it was just for two days, so it went nowhere.
Also, a democratic nation like America is less likely to have ‘regime change’ via peaceful protest than an actual dictatorship because people tend to save up their frustration for voting in elections.
Did Bovino lose anything? He’s back at work in Calif, w/ plans to retire. So he had free reign to play stormtrooper with no consequences.
I guess someone managed to get Trump to understand that “stop calling us Nazis or we’ll kill you” is bad PR.
Thanks. Seems unfortunate that the court couldn’t immediately issue a temporary injunction to prevent further harm - while allowing the parties to prepare supplemental briefs. Stop killing people NOW. In good time, we’ll decide whether you can resume terrorizing and killing people.
The briefings will continue until morale improves.
