I remember watching the game live and at the end was disgusted that the players did this. I did not like the man at all, but still thought it was a terrible thing to do and was not surprised in the least when he died a few weeks later.
The idiot who dumped a bucket of ice on his infant grandaughter in his "Ice Bucket Challenge" video.
Huh. That’s bullying now? I never share that crap, and never felt even the least bit pressured to do so. I thought most people just ignore it.
I also ignore it. I’m not the one who called it bullying, but that’s what I thought kaylasdad99 was talking about, given the context. I could be mistaken.
I just got an e-mail saying members of the Canadian Forces should not engage in IBCs in uniform.
Or course back in February, I was on an exercise, in uniform, in Chisasibi. That was ice-buckety enough, thanks.
I don’t think it’s fair to blame the ice bucket challenge for people getting hurt. Any time this many people try to do the same thing, people are going to get hurt. If you asked a million people to film themselves doing 10 jumping jacks, I’d bet you’d end up with at least 100 ER visits for anything from cardio events to sprained ankles to broken bones. Some will be flukes, some will be people falling down stairs or tripping over toys, some will be people inevitably ramping it up and falling off a second story roof or hood of a moving car. Dumping a bucket of (ice) water on your head isn’t going to kill a person, but getting that many people involved, well, something is always going to go wrong.
I don’t think you could get a million people to film themselves for a minute, standing still, without at least one finding a way to maim them self.
FTR, my sister managed to get the bucket dropped on her head. :smack: It’s kinda funny and upon rewatching it (over and over and over) you can see my 8 year old’s arms struggling with the bucket as my sister goes through her intro speech and by the time she’s ready to have the water dumped on her, my daughter’s arms are barely strong enough to lift it up and pour it and she just sort of lets it fall.
I wasn’t blaming it. Like I said, I don’t think it’s inherently dangerous. But any fad like this ends up being abused by idiots.
More like peer pressure.
All these idiots doing the challenge are only doing it for the attention. If you would stop watching their videos the idiots would stop.
It is what I was talking about.
Yes, I ignore that kind of thing, too. However, a little homunculus in my subconscious (who looks a bit like Miss Grundy, from the Archie comic books) makes note of the people who post that kind of thing, and gives them a little sniff of disdain.
