The Ignore List

Question: if the Man with the Golden Gun fights A Monkey With a Gun, who would win?

Me dumb? I cry now. :frowning:

The monkey. Definitely.

For those interested in such a thing, xash linked to a Firefox extension in this thread that almost totally eliminates a poster’s existence from the board.

None of that ‘this person is being ignored, click here to see their post’, seeing your internet enemy’s nonsense being quoted or even threads they’ve started. Apart from having people mention their name, they would just be gone.

Goddamn it Monkey Gun, I fell for it.

The ignore list is for those posters so weak that they cannot bear reading criticism or views that conflict with their own.

You don’t have to respond, you can just scroll past, it isn’t a performance review you know. Just a message board.

My personal opinion is that if you really need to put people on an ignore list, so you never even see what they post, is a sign of weakness. I don’t even know why such a thing should be available.

If someone is harrassing you, report it. If you don’t care for the opinions of a particular poster, just smile and move on.

I assume she put me on her ignore list because she was so disgusted by the posts I had made about Hogg, and she figured that’s the only thing I’m good for, so she might as well just ignore everything I post. Well, she’s missing out on a lot of interesting discussions about 17th-century cuirassier’s armor, Zager & Evans, and The Postman. Her loss.

As previously noted, some people go on “ignore” because they just don’t ever have anything to say worth reading. If life were fair, we’d have a function here where if enough people put you on “ignore” you’d get kicked right out of the site for failure to contribute anything worth reading. I don’t consider it a sign of weakness to “ignore” a poster who has proven, over and over again, that my time spent reading their posts is time completely wasted.

I quote you, so you friends who can’t see you will know what you are up to. Unless they can’t see me- which is likely.

That’s bullshit and you should know it. Consider my example in the OP. More importantly, I need to repost something I said upthread.

The ignore function is a use of willfull ignorance. If you do no not know what the guy says, then you shouldn’t post about the poster.

In my defense, I type one word per minute.

That explains sooo much.

Good luck with your experiments.

This post has been unignored by the Repeatist!

If anyone would like to be placed on my ignore list, feel free to ask. God knows I’m not using it for anything else. At least, I think I’m not. If there’s anyone whose posts I can’t see, I wouldn’t know. 'Cause, you know, I can’t see them.

What word is it?

“Cunt.”

You know what’s even more fucking awesome than this? Tachy goes to coventry.

Huh? How do you know why I put people on “ignore?” I feel like I’m missing part of this conversation.

I’m sorry if I inferred too much, but…

That seems to imply that you put people on ignore because you have made a judgment that you already know what they are going to say.

You don’t, though. Nobody knows what someone is going to say until they actually say it. The ignore function is willful ignorance.

The only time I’ve used it was when an evangelical poster was turning any discussion, regardless of the content, into the goodness of god. It became annoying after a while.

I’ve used it on one poster that never did anything but fight with people and be an ass in every thread on the board. The poster was here for a long time after almost everybody hated them. I just couldn’t stand to read one more normal thread ruined by this person. Ignore made the irritation go away quite nicely.
