When society’s institutions treat the members of one group quite differently than the members of another group (and have been doing so for 400 years, varying only in degree), there isn’t any ‘real equality.’ Even if racism ceased to exist tomorrow, the residual effects of that 400 years would linger for generations.

I’m not saying don’t help people or don’t root out bias. We all could help with that, I do my part here. I also am not opposed to programs that would disproportionately help minorities if class was used as justification. I’m just not convinced that explicit double standards are helpful for anyone other than the Democratic Party.
