Yes, the little buggers are a great inspiration to everyone.
I know how to spell “universally.” That wasn’t a typo.
Why, how many incel rallies do you go to? Or do you admit that tu quoque arguments are the only tool you have left to justify your sexism?
You are unaware of how ironic your post is. Sad.
Sure, there are heartening examples of tolerance by millenials and post-millenials.
There are also many depressing instances of hatred, bigotry and outright violence (in the U.S. and abroad) involving young people who can’t abide the fact that there are people who look and think differently from them. They are Angry, and that evidently trumps any obligation to speak and act decently.
Before concluding that young folks are The Future Of The Wor-ulld (literally true), we should ponder whether it’s necessarily going to be that rosy a future.
Enough said.
??
Thanks for posting that.
Reputable studies of this kind have more potential to get through to the ignorant*, than do a million hours of arguments about what particular words ‘should’ mean.
*By “ignorant” I mean people who genuinely believe that ‘racism is over’ or such. I’m not talking about people who are emotionally wedded both to racism and to believing that they themselves are not racist.
That’s spineless as well. Equality will never be achieved if people insist on treating special pet classes as fragile and weak. If you want so-called equality start treating people as real equals.
It never ceases to amuse me how eve now, after centuries of a well-documented history of whites founding and establishing a society based on racism, only marginally corrected by amendments and occasional evolution of social attitudes, are still stipulating the terms upon which they will ultimately embrace a society in which there is true equality.
“I’ll vote for a black guy once I see…”
“I’ll live next to a black guy once I see more black people doing…”
“I’ll let me daughter marry a black guy if black people would just…”
“I’d listen to complaints about racism if only black people would be less hostile when they complain about it.”

What part of treating people as equals is so confounding and threatening to your agenda?
Now I’m giving him a bit of slack due to my personal history with him, and knowing he’s a decent guy. I’ve invited him to point out the actual white supremacy, and to argue against people, while also condemning the vile stuff that Huey Freedman has said.
I hope he does it. I’ve already lost a lot of respect for him over how much he’s bent over backwards for that asshole in the past. Still, most other Dopers who were willing to give him a chance have clued in to who Huey Freedman really is. Even an angry black man can be a vile human being who is only here to try to hurt those who aren’t like him.
Why do you think he’s “bending over backwards for that asshole”? Hint: it’s not because he’s Huey’s friend’; he’s trying to get you to understand the idea that we still don’t live in a color-blind land of equal opportunity, and that some black people are more interested in justice first, friends with white people second (and maybe not at all). IIRC, iiandiii is married to a black woman, so I’m guessing he has some perspective on this, which you could probably use. But I already know you won’t because after all, you’re a “progressive,” you vote for Bernie Sanders (or HRC, I don’t know), and you can’t possibly be wrong about anything.
Seriously, why does it bother you? Why does it bother you that some black man whom you don’t know and probably never will is so fucking angry at what white people have done - not angry at you specifically but you as a member of white America collectively - that he acts like an asshole toward white people and generally has a low opinion of white America. If I were black, I would have a low opinion of white America. And the fact that some whites crossed racial lines and voted for Barack Obama or liked Michael Jordan doing Gatorade commercials wouldn’t mean shit to me. I would want a commitment to a society based on the ideals of racial justice, economic and social equality, not empty fucking platitudes and viral Instagram memes. Most of us reading and ranting on this thread would too but don’t have the self-awareness or the integrity to admit it because you all have never been in the position of having your status threatened because of your race.
Nobody is saying you have to like what Huey writes. I don’t always care for it either, but I at least think I can understand it. Not saying I excuse it, but I understand. Isn’t that what fighting ignorance is about? Trying to understand? Look, if Huey were like gratuitously engaging in gay bashing or being antisemitic or being anti-Latino or anti-Asian, I’d have more of a problem. But it’s pretty clear that Huey’s beef is with the majority of this country that has a documented history of abusing everyone else and, even to this day, continues to minimize the impact.
Your claims that Huey is “racist” are laughable because you clearly don’t know what the hell real racism is.

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: You’re not interested in treating people as your equals; it’s an empty fucking platitude that you like to toss at people when you’re having bullshit discussions on the internet.

Wrong. I’ve always been in favor of treating people equally. What you and others on the left hate is when people point out the duplicity of your position. Exploiting historically marginalized groups in order to achieve political power. It’s disgusting.

Exploiting marginalized groups to achieve power is the essence of being a conservative. What is “Making America Great Again” if not a clarion call for a society to revert back to being what it was once before the golden age of liberalism? And what was it then? A society founded upon the ideals of a raced-based system of capitalistic exploitation, and when half this country became so ashamed of itself that it could no longer bear the stench of its rotten shit-ass ideals, it was still more than willing to accept another century or more of legalized apartheid. Take your high dudgeon and shove it up your ass.

You honestly think that? Funny that we just had a black man as president. Such racism.

Don’t take credit you don’t deserve. We elected a black man to the Presidency despite the efforts of racists like you to prevent it.

And even then, afterward, said president’s citizenship was publicly questioned and he and his family were constantly attacked with racist memes and sentiments.

The intellectual dishonesty you folks display is pathological. Hopefully, a treatment will be devised to fix your mind.

Well put.

Nice try on the pivot. Asahi is speaking about MAGA and Trump. The fact that Obama was president has nothing to do with Asahi’s argument.

Seriously? Fuck off. “Obama, therefore no racism” is just too stupid an argument, even for you. I have to believe you’re just outright trolling with that one.

To be clear, what exactly do you think Obama’s election indicates about race relations in America, and how serious racism is as a societal and institutional issue?
