Second load of towels in the washer, first in the dryer, first 2 pans of oatmeal cookies in the oven. I have a few minutes before they’re done. I was going to make chocolate chip cookies, but I ran out of brown sugar. Oh well…
I also boiled some eggs, and I’ll make deviled eggs later - that may be supper. Yum!
Still windy and cold - hasn’t gotten out of the 20s yet. I’m glad I decided to stay home. It’s cold enough when I go to the garage to let the dogs out. brrrrrrrrr
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheets - cooking spray works fine.
3/4 cup shortening (I use butter, but have used veg. shortening)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
Cream the above together, then add:
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Blend well. Then sift together:
1 cup flour (white or whole wheat)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
Add to wet mixture and mix well. Then stir in
3 cups quick oats
raisins, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts are optional and to taste.
Drop by spoonsful on greased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool approx 3 minutes before removing to cooling rack.
This will make 4-6 dozen depending on how big a glop of dough you use. Mine are a bit bigger than a walnut and I get 4 dozen 3" cookies. And if you have a big enough bowl, this is best doubled, 'cause they’re good and they won’t last long!
I think it’s official- we’re never seeing one of our cats again. Bailey got out just before we left on Friday. We think. Not sure. He hasn’t turned up, and he has the survival instincts of a scone or a sack of wet mice, and it’s been -10C. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the sense to look for doors or for our house or approach people. I think. He’s been a house cat all his life (for his own safety).
Aw, poor Bailey! I’m so sorry, LiLi! :keeping fingers crossed anyway:
Forgot to say YAY for VBob’s back, so YAY!
Moooom - can you put some cookies in the cupholder thingie? kthxbai!
I deserve cookies. I just got back from the gym where I did a total of 1-3/4 miles, part on the bicycle and part on the treadmill. I’m tahred, but I feel good!
Awwww, hugs LiLi. I worry about our Lily for the same reason. She doesn’t have the sense to figure out which house in our row of townhouses is hers. :smack: I hope there’s a better outcome than you expect.
Howdy Y’all! Another day of irk down. Though it does not irk me so maybe I should call it work, 'cept I like “irk” better.
Beastloaf is in the oven makin’ da cave smell yummerific. I shall also steam some cabbage and make some mac 'n cheese plus some cornbread. 'Tis cold so cold weather food is called for.
ShinyCat sorry about the job and the depression. Hope everything’s better soon.
LiLi here’s hopin’ Bailey finds his way back, poor kitty.
BBBobbioWOOT!!! Just don’t over do it.
MOOOOOOM you did the sensible thing stayin’ home. I mean, those cookies were not goin’ to bake themselves, right? The recipe does sound yummerific. They may get made here in the next few days cause I’ve been told that the lack of cookie makin’ has reached critical mass of late. I assume that is a large hint.
taxi may whoever caused that project to be a pita suffer painful paper cuts.
Hopefully I can get this in before the internet goes out again. It’s been flaky since the weekend. I’m going to try to get dad to give me the pertinent details so I can call the provider because this is ridiculous.
I’m doing pretty good depression wise, even though if the past is any indication I should be super-stressing about money.
That’s about it with me. Just watch the internet will go out as soon as I hit post.
Word on the street is we might be getting our new stove next Monday. Then I can make cookies and not just sit here and be jealous of all you cookie bakers.
Ooh boy it is COLD outside! I stopped and got cookie-making ingredients so I’ll probably be taking in cookies for the Holiday luncheon tomorrow. Those oatmeal cookies sound delicious, FCM, and hey I saw that they have splenda now in both white and brown “sugar” versions!
Sorry about your job, STG; sending good thoughts your way and hope you’ll be able to find something else soon. Sending good thoughts your way also, taxi - so frustrating, I understand. I am such a luddite, though - I have trouble working with tables in word processing so people know better than to put me on a database or spreadsheet!
I still haven’t found a ride to the restaurant tomorrow. I may end up taking the bus. If I do that, I am definitely coming home for the day from the restaurant. LOL Why, you ask? Because it would take me too long to get back to work, and then it would be time for me to leave. Plus it’s still going to be very cold tomorrow! LOL I do have a call in to a co-worker who may be able to give me a ride, so we’ll see what happens. Wish me luck (cause I don’t really want to go out and wait for the buses in the cold!)
Two down, three to go! I want some of Swampy’s beastloaf!
Beastloaf and all the fixin’s were teh num if’n I do say so myself. 'Twas the perfect meal on a cold day. It’s supposed to get like 16 Amurrkin tonight, so BRRRRRR!
No cookie bakin’ though. Might happen Thursday night just cause. Like there needs to be a reason to make cookies.
I’ve been out into the cold to find presents for my 2 best work friends. We have our annual let’s-exchange-presents lunch tomorrow. I also started to look for stuff for my team; I want to distribute on Friday which is the day we go out for our holiday lunch.
My friend who used to organize a cookie exchange stopped doing that last year, so I haven’t baked any cookies yet. I’m trying to decide what to bake. I’ve always brought cookies in to work from the exchange and this year I don’t have any. Guess I need to take a survey.
Dinner is more cranberry jell-o salad (more salad than jell-o; yum!) and some beef broth with rice. Added a couple of drops of Worcestershire and sesame oil and a pinch of dried ginger to give it a bit more flavor. It’s still kinda meh; guess I’ll have to add something else to the rest. Maybe a dab of tomato paste and some garlic. And some leeks. Tomorrow’s soup will be better.
I will not tell you how your table could be worse, taxi. Cuz it could be. In Excel, I’d just add a column with a length formula so that I could sort out the 5-character items from the 13-character items. And, depending on what I was trying to do, I’d either manually create two columns or replace the lengths with alpha qualifiers that I could use to tag each row. Yes, I’ve had to do that recently. My personal favorites are spreadsheets that are either randomly formatted or filled with empty rows between sections (preferably hidden!). Or not. But, yeah, I feel your pain as well.
As you can see, my brain is currently bouncing around from topic to topic.
Applied for unemployment, which for some reason depressed me. That or low blood sugar. Waiting for my parents to get home so I can make dinner. Finished the family tree for some of my fictional characters, with notes of who lives in other states, who gets together for Thanksgiving, and who is a raging bitch and thus not welcome (she’s going to be modelled after my aunt.) I’m trying to get some characters who are not associated with the various bad guys. I should come up with some of the younger good guy’s friends next.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. It did not get as cold as it was supposed to get last night. It’s 23 Amurrkin as opposed to the 16 it was supposed to be. That’s better, I guess. However, it there really that much difference between 16 and 23 Amurrkin if’n it’s clear and dry out? Whatever, it’s still dang cold!
Today should be fairly mellow at irk. As far as I know, all I have on the agenda is some follow-up calls to see if folks got information they asked for, to see if there are any questions and/or to set up appointments to meet with folks if that’s needed. Fine by me. Tomorrow I get to go to large and in charge Leesburg for the day. Rah.
Obligatory (well it is this week!) picutre of the Lee County Jawja Courthouse in Leesburg. A rather mundane building as courthouses go but over the doors it says “Lee Covnty.”
Today shall be swimming day at the gym! I’m really feeling good about all this exercising, even if I am a bit sore. All over. Especially my abs today. I weighed myself and I lost a pound! Probably water from all the sweating.
Last night we had chicken and dumplings for dinner. Mmm. Tonight will be hamburgers on the grill, since unlike the rest of the country, Houston is having some fabulous weather! Highs around 70, and low humidity. This is the time of year that makes up for 100° summers.
