Especially recognizing some of the places. Now you know why the hockey people were “just another night at work” around here.
My second on the hugs and woot. Especially Bailey; I am very sad about it too.
Yes. He hasn’t turned up. It’s very cold out. I think his survival chances if he hasn’t been taken in by someone are about 2%.
My hobby (well, one of my hobbies) is taking pictures of county courthouses, and those are two of Ohio county courthouses that I’ve taken and posted on Flickr. And I think this is the first t8ime that I’ve noticed other people posting links to my pictures on the SDMB. (I’ve done it myself a few times).
Howdy Y’all! Hump Day has humped on by for me.
Giles cool pics! I love those old courthouses.
{{{LiLi and Bailey}}} maybe somebody has taken him in.
Grillin’ fish for dindin tonight cause well, I want some. The cook gets to choose. That’s a rule. Some vegetative matter will also be involved. Possibly some steamed broccoli and baby carrots cause I got both fresh in the fridge.
It’s still cool here. 47 Amurrkin as I post. Rebo’s warmer weather is supposed to be here tomorrow followed by rain of Firday. That folks is winter down south.
Later Y’all!
My data’s all in databases so I was able to just tell the database do this where length(field) = 5 and do this other thing where length(field) = 13. So… not that bad really, and better than it would have been in Excel. But c’mon. It’s database theory 101. OK so I guess some of my coworkers may not have taken database theory 101, which is why there is training going on right now including a database fundamentals class. But it’d be so nice if all of my data was clean when I got it. All I want for Christmas is clean data!
My two teammates and I went to watch a usability test this morning. They are having customers come in, one at a time, to try using the website and to tell us what’s good and bad. It was interesting to watch the process, although I was glad I didn’t have to sit through more than one. It’s definitely uncomfortable watching a person struggle to use your website!
So, taxi, does this mean all your database are belong to us?
Did an early dindin. ‘Twas good. Grilled fish (tilapia), steamed broccoli (if you just had one piece would it be a broccolus?) and baby carrots, and just cause I wanted some, friggin’ good N.O.T.. YUM! I like easy yet tasty meals.
That is all.
Man, am I ever the grouch tonight. I had to stop at Wally*World to get dog food and stuff, and the door Nazi tried to stop me. I told him, “I didn’t set off your alarms, so fuck off.” He was a tad surprised.
VWife and I have had a 2 day running feud about sidewalk salt. I said I need to get some; she said no, we have what you bought last year. :grumble: Tonight, she decrees that I need to go look for the salt because we’re getting slammed tomorrow. I looked as she demanded, and we had 0; imagine that. So guess whose fault it is we have none, when I had two opportunities to get it and I was countermanded both times. :dubious:
I’ve been jonesing chikkies ‘n’ dumplings for a week, and now I’m too POed to bother making it.
HAH!
KT made eeeeeeeeeeeeevil Chex mix last night, and I couldn’t stop eating it while I was at home for lunch, and now I’m still full and don’t really want dinner.
Now, that’s what most of the Town Halls and Courthouses around here look like; at least, those that aren’t featureless office buildings. In fact, my high school looks like that, too.
Since I don’t wanna be left out of the courthouse game, here’s the one where I did my jury duty. It’s actually quite large - there’s a big addition in the back that goes down a level. This part of the courthouse is at the top of a hill.
I came home and drove back to Dahlgren so **FCD **could help daughter with some aquarium problems. Then we all went out to dinner. Thus endeth Wednesday.
We’re threatened with snow tomorrow - but supposedly 1-3" so no biggie. Someone at work claimed he’d heard we were going to get 5-7" - dunno what he was smoking… I got the snow shovels out of the shed as insurance, so it won’t do anything tomorrow. Right?
That’s all I’ve got.
I’m at the Bistro to watch hockey.
FCM, that’s sounds like our forecast.
Rubel, dunno. the bartenders seemed shocked that a one legged man would order 20 shots of patron tequila at a time($150.00)
VFD Santa just went thru the neighborhood. I wonder if any kids went out to see - it’s like 22 out there. brrrrrrrrrr
For those unfamiliar, every year, the local volunteer fire dept drives an engine around the county with lights and sirens and Santa on top. I thought they did it on the weekends, but I guess not.
We do it this Saturday. Supposed to snow for it, too…
Today was the Company Christmas Party. The speechifyin’ went on for way too long, but it was good to see some people I call every day. I yawned through the whole thing. Bojangles coffee isn’t as unblurfy as my homemade coffee. I did not have homemade coffee this morning because I couldn’t figure out how to plug the coffeemaker in. :smack:
Wow, rosie, you went to a classy-looking high school. Mine was built in the early 1960s when architecture was efficient and beauty-free. See?
Heh. I’m not sure if Sticky picked your photo out on purpose, Giles, but I recognized your flickr handle from some past photo thread and was amused to post a link to a photo I knew was taken by a Doper. Cool courthouse collection, by the way! Thanks for linking to the whole thing.
Yeah, taxi, I figured you had better tools than I would have. Still, it amazes me how reasonably experienced people can make people’s jobs harder just by being sloppy.
I’m done picking out ornaments for my staff. Still need small presents for my 3 direct reports. Really not sure what I’m going to get for them.
Tired…I think I’ma go to beddy-bye now…
Hugs.
GT
taxi, pass the snack mix. It’ll go nicely with my Nutritional Write-Off dinner of fried mac’n’cheese with bacon.
Good news- Mr. Lissar’s been talking to a couple of local dance and yoga places about teaching, and has two prospective students even though he hasn’t started teaching yet.
I’m making Christmas dinner next week.
Do you think I can roast Brussels sprouts at the same temperature as the turkey? I don’t have two ovens, and want to do a bunch of roast veg because it’s the easiest. Shove pan in oven, stir once, serve. I’m going to do the sprouts, parsnips, sweet potatoes, and maybe onions in a separate pan, or baked cheese onions. We have fruitcake and cheese and dessert is always no problem because of my frantic baking schedule.
I’m also tempted to do an extra type of roast animal. Ham or beef or something, so that the leftovers don’t become as boring. What do you think?
Nope. Had no clue. But it is quite a coincidence and quite a lovely collection!
How do you get your oatmeal cookies to not spread out and be too thin? Mine thin out and get too crispy but if I take them out too early then they aren’t done all the way.
Sorry to hear about the kitty getting out and being out in the cold. I hope kitty found some place warm.
It’s snowing here in D-port, Iowa! I love it! We’re supposed to get 1-3 inches and my daughter told me they got 10 inches where she is and that’s five hours away. I hope it doesn’t keep her from coming home for the holidays. But if it does I’ll be happy that she’s safe and warm where she is. I’m going to worried about her traveling on a bus tomorrow the way it is.
Excitement in my city today! There was a convict in Johnson county jail who was transported to Iowa City University hospital for treatment and he made a grand escape. He stole two cars and crashed one before hijacking a woman and made her drive from Iowa City to Davenport which is about a 45min. drive.
While he was still loose in Iowa City they put all the schools on lock-down but they didn’t do that here. They just scrolled a little blurb at the bottom of our local news station saying to be on the lookout for a guy dressed in a hospital gown wearing flip-flops and a white hoodie. That was at noon today.
By 5 tonight there was special breaking news that the guy had stolen a car from a sporting goods store here and there was a high speed chash that ended with him flipping the car and being taken into custody. They think he was headed to his mom’s house, but the news reported that she had moved. I wonder if she told him?
He was wanted for robbing a bank and had been charged once before for something to do with a minor. This was his third escape from custody! Crazy stuff!
I know I used to have a nickname for the MMP, but I’ll be darned if I can remember it. I know, I don’t come around much.
I have the day off today. So far I have written some emails, had a big breakfast and dyed my hair. Next I am going grocery shopping before it snows because we’ve been forecast a whole load of horrible weather for the next few days.
After lunch I will be wrapping hexmas presents and attempting to keep Ophie out of the way because she loves to help. Perhaps a chunk of sticky tape on her head will keep her occupied while I get on with the serious stuff.
I have a couple of letters to write and some cards to sort out, and that is about all for my day off. I think that’s quite enough effort. Friday is my last day at work before the holiday too so that is a bonus - the stupid students are supposed to be handing in project protocls by 4pm and already they are causing trouble with it. They have been emailed with the submission process which this year involves them using our fancy new time-stamp machine to record the date and time they come to the office with their paperwork.
It’s pretty simple. The machine is on the wall in the office, it has instructions. Stick your top sheet of paper in, it prints the date and time on it. Then put your paperwork in the correct pigeonhole for whatever you’re submitting. Simple, huh? Not quite. Yesterday afternoon I had a call from a project supervisor (they have to sign the forms) asking where the stamp was that she had to use because the students said it had to be stamped. This is the future of medicine, people.
Interestingly enough, we asked the students who are using questionnaires to get an additional form signed by their supervisor to prove that they have seen the questions they want to ask, and have said they’re acceptable and ethically ok etc…so far I’ve had two of these approvals handed in with the relevant questionnaires, one has been time-stamped with the new machine and one hasn’t. Neither of them has the accompanying resources request form telling me how many copies they need, whether they are sending a covering letter, and whether or not they need reply-paid envelopes. I am so tempted just to file them and do nothing about it when really I know I should contact the students and ask for the additional info. Does that make me a bad person?
Happy Thursday!
Good morning all, up and caffeinating here. LiLi, so sorry to hear about Bailey and hope someone took him in.
Holiday luncheon went fairly well w/a bit of drama of course. Quite a few folks got lost on the way to the restaurant as the directions took them through the campus of the Univ. of MD. There was a much simpler way of getting there, unfortunately.
BooFae don’t you wonder sometimes how the students made it as far as they did?! Or maybe it’s just that they suffer from a -severe- lack of common sense! Glad to hear that your vacay is nearly here–I think mmmmms mentioned that she was heading home to massive amounts of cold weather in the UK soon.
Whee, it’s -almost- FIRDAY! Now that’s a good thing!!
