Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ on a less cool mornin’. It’s 48 Amurrkin out and I’m thinkin’ it may rain. It probably will cause I get to drive up to da Burg and then over to Dawson this mornin’/afternoon. I have found that the weather tends to gang up on me like that.
BooFae when instructions are given to students in the future you should make sure that the instructions include the fact that anyone failin’ to comply with said instructions will be severely pointy sticked. That oughta get 'em in line! Embrace the stick! Become one with the stick!
Ok, rumbly ummy demands to be fed. Also more caffiene intake is needed. Then it’s purtification for irk. Woohoo!
At 3ºC, it is officially cold in Barakaldo. We’re at sea level (got our own fjord even), so this is a place where people are used to saying “it ain’t the cold, it’s the humidity”: well, today, and for people who ain’t from Minnesota, it is officially the cold.
They’re taking us to Da Good Restaurant, though, we’ll probably warm up over there. The smokers are Sad Puppies because the smokers’ area was full and we’ll be seated in non-smoking: the non-smokers (two of whom also happen to have sore throats at the time) are trying to avoid strutting their happiness.
Since I’ve seen several people in need of them, use as needed: {{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Wow, that sounds like a comedy of errors, Kricket. Glad no one was hurt.
Seems like you could start the vegetables with the turkey and then turn up the heat once you take the turkey out and just make them the last thing you put on the table.
I’ve got the last-day-before-vacay idonwannas. Not that there’s anything to do. Data cleanup. Blech. That involves moving electronic files from one folder to another. Can you say BORING? I knew you could…
So I guess I’ll head over to the Game Room and start up a new Feud.
It’s a nice 60°F today, but tonight we get a front in - another dry one! We haven’t had any rain in ages. I should be careful what I wish for though.
Hi. Craziness at work has resumed, so I have been scarce. But I’ve shipped my task for the week – a whole one hour early, too! – and so I have a bit of time.
First, from what I can remember, Taters, ouch on the break-in; glad nothing was taken and nobody hurt but, still, just … ouch!
**Lili **-- Sorry about the cat
If I’m forgetting anyone who needs hugs or words of encouragement, sorry… I haven’t been following too well.
**Kricket **-- I think we should call you Gemini. Or just “twins”; that’ll confuse 'em
Taxi, DoRe, **GT **and anyone else working with data and wanting it clean – you should surreptitiously convince one of the slower non-techies around that the the data has become “dirty” because there are bugs in it. This happens when the RAID doesn’t work right! So, the only solution is to take the RAID enclosure and top it off with more insecticide liquid – through any opening in the plastic will do fine, thankyewverymuch!
It wasn’t the behavior - its just that people around here are cheap bitches. I got the same kind of shock buying 12 beers (being the only Santa at the time who could reach the bar). Just like the “crossing rivers” thing I’ve noticed, I’ve seen families here all order one drink at a time and pay for it. Unless its pitchers and there’s a game on.
On another note: my doctor has suggested I give up beer totally. However she also said I could drink all the whiskey I want. Boy – if she knew my “wants” she may have chosen a different phrasing.
The one around here that pisses me off is “You better not buy me a dinky diamond!”
If someone said that to me, I’d buy them a bag of charcoal briquettes and tell them to start squeezing.
Icky weather here. One of the major freeway interchanges was closed this morning due to ice, and there was the usual scattering of wrecks around the region. Makes me glad today’s a telecommute day. What else makes me glad is the standing orders from my management - if the weather’s going to be crappy, feel free to telecommute even if it’s not your normal schedule.
Li-Li, I’m hoping someone took Bailey in. Hugs to you.
My son got an acceptance letter from Washington State University yesterday. That’s his number two choice, though. He finished his application for University of Washington yesterday. Unfortunately, he won’t hear from them until March or so. However, it’s nice to know that he’s got something lined up if his number one choice doesn’t come through.
Life has been crazy for me and is fixing to become even more crazy. I’m tired, but I’ll live.
Thanks for the hugs. Gnat hasn’t figured out that Bailey is gone yet, although I’ve told him a few times that kitty got out and we hope he found another family etc.
I’ve gotten Mr. Lissar a very nice present and a few bottles of coke for Christmas. I’m wrapping them all up in many layers and boxes and things. Serves him right for wrapping my presents, putting them on a high shelf, and telling me if I weren’t a midget I could reach them!
Still got to get stuff for my parents. Gnat’s getting piles of things from all our friends. We’re only giving him a couple of toys and the Christmas stocking.
kricks (it’s a workin’ nickname) I agree. Better he goes to Wally*World.
Another day of irk done. Didin tonight shall be leftover red beans and rice cause I want it outta da fridge. Plus I make a fruit sallit cause I wanted one. Sounds healthy don’t it!
**Kricket **- The only time I have issues with oatmeal cookies spreading all thin is when I use the electric mixer for everything but adding the oats. The batch I just made is tending to fall apart, and I’m not sure why. They’re yummy, but crumbly.
I hate Jared and Kay and all the other diamond pushers. Of course, I don’t do jewelry anyway, and I get really irked at sexist morons who suggest that I can be bought off with sparklies.
Oh, yeah, I got out of work early today - SNOW DAY!! The schools in southern MD were all closed as was the county where my daughter teaches. I though it was pretty wussy of them to shut down before the first flake appeared, but they were right. We got between 2-3", and it’s pretty slick out there. Fortunately, there was only one stretch of road that had me nervous, and that was mostly because of an idiot who kept spinning his/her wheels. I managed to get around that vehicle and got home just fine. I shoveled the walk, and it looks like it’s only gotten another 1/2" on it. And it appears to have stopped snowing. So yay.
We may get a late start tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure we’ll have to go in.
There are a couple of ServePro trucks next door and I hear a loud buzzing noise - I’m thinking maybe they had a flood or something. Frozen pipes maybe? Bummer.
That’s all I’ve got. I hate winter. Oh yeah, and I found out I’m one of the senior analysts on call over New Year’s weekend. Guess it’s a good thing we never do anything for New Year’s Eve.
Hmm. We suddenly have three people coming over this evening. That’s nice. Between Gnat’s problems and Tom Kitten’s we’ve had a lot less company around for a few months. I like my kind of company- I make dinner, they do the dishes.
Well, it turns out that UVA would accept a master’s from American Public University (online and cheap, but accredited) to enter their doctoral program. I’d still rather spend as little time there as possible, just enough to be admitted somewhere like VA Tech, which has a master’s program (and my undergrad school), but it’s good to know that I have the option of staying there.
It’s been an incredibly busy day so I haven’t caught up, but I’ve been meaning to post pics, and this is my last chance to do so for the week. From our holiday party, I’m in white. Then there was snow and more snow.
I’ve had enough of tearing my hair for the week so whenever I manage to get out of here tonight, I’m off until Monday. Tomorrow’s a mental health and xmas shopping and shipping day. Talk about TGIF!
