The Incoming Holidays MMP

VBob - I do hope there’s a story from it.

Sound of quiet belching

How dainty and delicate of you!

Oh, yeah…

Another Mayberry VFD Operation Santa is in the books. We’ll see if I can avoid pneumonia.

The Holiday Mexican Fiesta menu has been decided upon! (Unfortunately, Mr Rebo has vetoed the pinata idea as being too lame for adults. :stuck_out_tongue: on him)

Ground beef tacos, crunchy or soft
Lettuce, tomatoes, chopped onions, shredded cheese
Beef enchiladas, and cheese enchiladas
Chicken tamales, and pork tamales
Tomatillo salsa, and red salsa
Refried beans
Spanish rice
Guacamole
Queso and chips
Li’l Smokies and BBQ sauce - cuz my son asked for them
Orange-scented Flan
Tres Leches Cake

We’re having about a dozen guests.

Definitely. I’ve always thought an adult pinata would be fun. Instead of dangling it from a rope and swinging at it with bats, find a quarter stick and draw straws for the honor of lighting the fuse. When I was a Tae Kwan Do student, we had to kick it.

Up, caffeinated, off to irk.

Belated happies, Mr BusDude!

Morning, Mumpers! Happy Sunday! It is Sunday, right? I am losing track of the days already. After the complete student-based trauma of last week, I finally made it to the end of Friday and packed up work until next year. Oh, that sounds so good!

On Friday night it snowed overnight, not hugely but enough to be a nuisance for the morning. Saturday it snowed all day until about 5pm but even after that there were intermittent flurries of the white stuff. Needless to say it created the most unbelievable travel chaos and 'im indoors had to be stuck in the middle of it. He ended his contract job in Belgium on Friday and was due to see his landlady on Saturday morning to collect his deposit and return the keys before she went away for her holiday. That bit went ok, but after that it got complicated.

He had only got a 40-minute window to get from the Eurostar in London up the road to another station to get a train up here, and by yesterday morning the Eurostar was already reportedly running 45mins behind schedule on each service due to speed restrictions. That meant he was already going to miss that last train, so he tried to get hold of some friends to see if he could spend the night with them instead. Eventually the train left Brussels far later than expected and instead of a 9pm arrival in London, he got off just before 11pm. Fortunately Eurostar were kind enough to provide him with a room in a hotel for the night, so he is now on a train coming up here and should be back in about 2 1/2 hrs. Woot!

There is some champage in the fridge…

I have been out to dig the car out and get the 3 inches of snow off it. That’s much more snow than we have had in a very long time, and much more than we’re used to so I am not exactly looking forward to driving to the station later. The council only grits the main roads so our street doesn’t get done, but I am hoping the main roads into town and the station will be clear enough.

Ophelia is very unhappy with me just now though, she is trying to get on my lap but the laptop is in her way. I suspect if I don’t move it and let her have some fuss, she’ll pee on it.

Up ridiculously early because my poor sweetie had to go to work again. He said he’s almost done the model for his design, but he still has about 18 engineering drawings to do. All before we leave on Thursday. And I heard the phrase “If they don’t stop changing the specs…” He’s not a happy camper. Poor baby…

The only definite thing I have to do today is transplant a houseplant. I’ll probably feed and water them all at the same time, too. And I’m thinking shepherd’s pie for supper. Um, ok, technically cottage pie, since I don’t use mutton.

That’s all I’ve got so far. More when I wake up.

Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. ‘Tis a chilly Sunday mornin’ but not freezin’ so there’s that. When I went to bed last night the temp said 43 Amurrkin and that’s what it is right now.

This afternoon we will be decoratin’ the church for Christmas. Yes this afternoon. Today is the last Sunday in Advent and no decoratin’ until after that. Christmas is its own two week season of the church year. I shall go to help decorate just cause it’s fun. Plus we have adult beverages and munchies afterwards. Non-adult beverages for the kidlets and others who do not wish to imbibe, of course, cause we’re nice dammit.

I need to make some kind of brekkies. We cannot have cookies for breakfast. Ok, we could have cookies for breakfast but I have decided we’re gonna be responsible adult type people and eat a proper brekkies. I’m thinkin’ scrambled aigs, bacon, cheese grits and toast cause I’s kinda hongry. Plus the smell of bacon fryin’ will cause OYKW to stir. He’s snoozin’ away as I post.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

We’re having cereal because early mornings are too busy for us. And Mr. Lissar hasn’t gotten up yet.

It was a fun party. And now Christmas chaos really descends- only a few days! We should really decorate the damn tree!

I like that Nativity story, EH.

I’m all breakfasted and ready to go be deheathenated.

Do you have time to regale us with a final Cottonfield County EMS story for tomorrow, Bobbio? If not, I have an idea to get us started off.

Your dinner menu sounds yummy, Rebo. I’d like to do tamales for Christmas Eve, but we’re going to good Chinese instead. Might make some tamales during the holiday anyway, if my niece comes up.

LiLi, hope you told Muppet we miss her. Also, have you seen this thread?

Off to brush teeth and then to church…

Hugs.

Morning all! Up and caffeinated and partially brekkied. Only partially though. Cookie making shall commence shortly … which will take care of the other part of brekkies.

My son is on the way home from grad school - in NM. Airfare was too expensive for me, so he’s coming by Greyhound bus, poor thing! I just went online to check out the complete schedule (two transfers …) and right now, he should be almost to Amarillo TX. He won’t get in until 3 AM on Tuesday. :frowning: Ah well, at least we’ll have a few days with him!

If you insist…

Well, then, insist we shall BBBobbio!

All who insist on BBBobbio regailing us in a final Cottonfield County EMS story tomorrow say “Aye”.

AYE!!!

All those opposed [del]sit down and be quiet[/del] say “Nay”.

::crickets::

The “Ayes” have it. Motion carried. So mote it be.

Don’t y’all just lurve democracy in action!
Deheathenated and lunched. Shortly I shall return to the church house to help with deckin’ the halls. Rah.

Yay! Thanks for [del]letting us twist your arm[/del] volunteering, Bobbio.

Back from church, brunch at Applebees, and a fairly long walk that was mostly an exercise in dodging the snowballs being flung between brother and nephew.

Now I need to do some Christmas cards and then I’m off to dinner at a friend’s.

Hugs.

The Bad Astronomer’s top pic choices for 2010.

I shared them on facebook, too, so some of you may have seen them already…

I love that stuff - I already made one of them my wallpaper

Shepherd’s (cottage) pie is in progress - filling is simmering and topping has just been put on to boil so’s I can mash. **FCD **came home to work here and watch his beloved Cowboys - he’s making unhappy sounds, so I’m guessing the game isn’t going well.

I finished the knitted shawl - really don’t much like the pattern, so I don’t know if I’ll make another like it. I started another using green and white on a #15 needle - it’ll be a rectangular shawl/stole, or a reeeeeeeeally wide scarf.

The sun is shining but it’s still cold out. Have I mentioned that I hate winter? But our new windows make it cozy in here, so yay for that.

Back to the kitchen…

I know! I’ve really become an astronomy pic geek in the past year (thank you, twitter!). There are some extremely cool pics out there. Just got another one through NASA Goddar: it’s a picture of the Milky Way from Joshua Tree National Park.
