The Jeopardy thread [was James Holzhauer][contains spoilers]

The opening scene (under the credits, with “Moon River” playing on the soundtrack) shows Audrey Hepburn looking wistfully into the windows of Tiffany & Co. while eating a danish and coffee out of a paper sack.

I suppose they’d have to rule someone correct for “what is Tiffany’s?”, but the actual store is “Tiffany & Co.”

Two of the contestants wrote “Tiffany’s.” The third wrote “Tiffany & Co.” All three were accepted as correct.

There is at least one scene inside the store. I don’t have the movie to hand — and it’s been a long time since I saw it last — but I believe it involves discussing a Cracker Jack ring with a Tiffany’s salesman.

That said, I have no idea whether it was filmed inside Tiffany & Co.

Ashamed to admit I didn’t get that one.

“And she said what about Breakfast at Tiffany’s
I said I think I’ve forgotten the film”

I think the line is
“She said ‘I think I remember the film’”

(because this is the thread I can be that person)

I got it immedately, since all of the offerings were breakfast items.

But I’m the guy that forgot the film, and didn’t get the answer.

Playing the 7 Wonders board game (though it mostly involves cards) helped me know what is at Halicanarsis right away.

Ps nice joke answer by other Brian

I didn’t get the joke answer (H&R Block?) Did it have something to do with Ken and taxes?

No, it referred to the wrong answer by Ken that ended his 74-game winning streak, back in 2004. He’d answered “FedEx” to the question “Most of this firm’s 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work only four months a year”. The correct answer was “H&R Block.”

OK, that’s pretty funny! Glad Ken has a sense of humor about it.

Yeah, it spoke well for him that his immediate response was to laugh (instead of to look annoyed, or such).

If the clue crew doesn’t set up “What is a hoe?” as a question, then this whole guest hosting business will be a waste.

I really like Ken Jennings as host. His long connection to the show makes the difference.

His delivery is getting better in the later shows.

I don’t know if he’s interested in a full-time gig. Hosting is a lot of work. I don’t know how Alex did it for over thirty years. That’s an amazing commitment.

It’s not coal mining, or teaching a class of 14 year olds. And Alex reportedly made $10 million a year for what is essentially a part time job.

I don’t know if he’s interested either, but I wouldn’t say “it’s a lot of work.”

Are you kidding? Two long tape days a week, every other week, 46 days a year. And yes, Alex had input into tweaking the clues, and had a role as producer later on. But not exactly digging ditches.

I’d take on that burden for a lot less than $10 million!

I was thinking of the taping commitment.

Ken has a full plate with various projects. He could host Jeopardy but it would mean making adjustments to his schedule. That’s a decision he’ll have to weigh with his current life. How bad does he want the job?

Anyway, he’s already a pretty good host. He’d be much better with experience.

I’m not aware of Jennings’ other activities, but does anyone believe that, if offered the Jeopardy! gig, he wouldn’t choose it over any of the others? I’ve said that I don’t think he will be offered it, but surely it would be his first priority, right?

I can imagine that many of the others whose names have been bandied about – Couric, Burton, Stephanopoulos, etc. – might have other things they’d rather do, or even make more money at. But Jennings owes everything to Jeopardy! He’d probably give up everything else he’s doing to be the permanent host, even if he didn’t have to.

Very bad Final Jeopardy wager in today’s episode:
Two-way tie for first place going into FJ ($18,800 each IIRC, and the third place contestant had $10,000.
She wagered all $10,000. If there had been a triple stumper, all three contestants would have finished with $0. If she had wagered any other amount, she would have won in the event of a triple stumper.

As it turned out, she got FJ wrong, but the other two contestants were correct, necessitating a tiebreaker question.
