I suspect that Jerry is having an absolutely miserable week, and this after working a holiday weekend. And he’s sure to see lots of bitching on top of that for weeks and weeks until all of the issues are found and fixed.
So I’m giving him a hip-hip-hooray! in honor of all the work he’s putting into this. Thanks, Jerry!
I think it best I quote a college neighbor who, poor girl, had a habit of mixing her metaphors. So… Jerry, your efforts are much appreciated and regarding the board performance I’m pleased as pink punch.
I know it’s a long, drawn out and maddening process. That’s the main reason why I haven’t said anything about the board so far. But it’s never too early to say thanks for everything you’ve done.
Don’t read this thread, Jerry! They’ll know you’re slacking off!
Jerry does deserve serious kudos here. He’s working nights and weekends on this, and specifically I wanted to say I was surprised and very pleased that all those old posts are back. It’s great work.
:dubious: I’ve never worked a job where the pay was enough for me. I’m sure that they exist (somewhere), but they almost certainly pay a lot more than either of us make.
That’s what all of the management studies say too, by the way. Cash isn’t enough to make most people happy with their jobs. Appreciation and respect and recognition is usually much more important.
ETA: Err, though that’s not why I started this thread. I’ve totally been in his position, so I know how much it sucks.
I remember at Red Rocks in '82, I was tripping on the pink punch, the sky was yellow and the sun was blue and then the band went into “Truckin” and everyone’s faces started MELTING, I started to freak out and Jerry looked right at me and gave me this big wink and smile and everything was groovy again.
If his job is anything like mine, he’s salaried, and gets paid exactly the same for working all weekend long (over a three-day holiday weekend) as he would for putting in his normal M-F 8-5 workweek (not that such a thing exists in IT)…so he most likely did in fact do this on his “free time”…
Upgrades are a pain in the ass when they run exactly according to plan; they can become an unspeakable horror when things go wrong. From what I’ve seen so far, things here are going about as well as they can be expected to go.
I went and found my “I’m pregnant!” thread that I posted back in 2001, and re-read all of the advice and support and well wishes, and honestly got a little teary-eyed. I saved it as a text file this time around so I won’t lose it again.
Thanks, Jerry, for doing all this work, restoring the lost threads, and just generally sprucing the place up. It’s appreciated.
I know exactly how you feel. I experienced those same emotions just now when I found the first thread I started, from back in March of 2000, wondering how to fix my stinky garbage disposal.
