The Joker Blogs

Okay dopers, why did I not hear about this before a few days ago? I know someone here has to have known about this before now. (joking, obviously…)

So, for those who don’t know, apparently back in 2008 some enterprising Youtuber had seen The Dark Knight and decided to do his best Heath Ledger impression, and married it to some incredibly crisp and inventive writing. The conceit is that after the Joker was captured at the end of aforementioned film he’s checked in to Arkham and assigned a new doctor to over see his treatment, a “Dr. Harlene Quinzell”.

I first heard about this particular series of YT clips in an article discussing recent superhero flicks and, while I usually bypass such recommendations, as a Batman fan I decided to give these a look. And so far at least, they’ve been really, really good. I’m 7 or 8 parts in so far and have a ways to go yet to finish the series. The actor who portrays the Joker has absolutely nailed Ledger’s portrayal while still putting his own spin on things, as a slightly, (very slightly), more calm version of the character. Justified by his circumstances I think…

These are not big productions, it’s mostly the primary actor interacting with the camera, (and his makeup is spot on), but I’ve been very impressed thus far. Anyone who’s the slightest bit interested in minimalist film making or character studies might want want to give these clips a look.

So has anyone else seen these? Impressions, thoughts?

Part 1. Therapy begins. “Please don’t touch that… Just… just sit right there.” He had me hooked in 5 minutes.

I watched all 19 of them last night, and they were pretty cool. A bit hard to suspend disbelief sometimes, especially with the entire cast of characters being so young. Didn’t really think Harley was much of a psychiatrist either, but that could be keeping in character.
