The Jonny Quest Appreciation Thread

Hey, I liked the '90s version.

And I wasn’t even a kid! :o

I have the first volume on DVD. I love how the 90’s show can be epically awesome in one episode, and hysterically retarded in the next. And the Academy Award for most pathetic, inconsequential villain goes to… Jeremiah Surd! Even sidestepping the “Wheelchair bound quadriplegic” angle, his henchmen, when armed with submachine guns, get taken out by a trio of unsupervised fifteen year olds armed with a fire extinguisher!

Ezekiel Rage, however, definitely had his moments. SO IT IS WRITTEN… IN THE BOOK OF RAGE!

And yes, I was Jessie’s biggest fan. I think she got me started on my redhead kink.

And Questworld was so much cooler when I was eleven. Now that I’m not eleven, it’s… well… why did they decide to do that, anyways?

Wow, a zombie thread I started, I am honored!

He loaded the bi-plane with his diamonds and a crate of potato masher grenades, “ah these grenades will take care of the swine” and started to throw them at the Quest gang while they were crossing a rope bridge. He goes in for the kill, “this time I can not miss!” Unfortunately he throws the grenade and it becomes embedded in the bottom wing as he gasps in horror, tries to roll the plane to dislodge it to no avail, and then it finally goes up blasting off the bottom wing of the plane which then crashes in flames. Dr Quest makes the non PC comment that he deserved it.

I can’t believe my brother and I were actually allowed to watch this. Our mom was otherwise extremely strict about what we could watch. Nothing violent ever. Clearly, it didn’t occur to her that cartoons could be violent.

This was my brother’s favorite show. In fact, it might be his favorite show ever. I liked it, too, but probably wouldn’t have watched it if we hadn’t had to share a single television (I’m a girl and didn’t much like action/adventure at the time). We watched it in syndication both in the States and in Mexico. I remember coming home from school in Mexico and having a TV-watching and radio-listening routine that included Jonny Quest.

I got all excited when I happened to see that Amazon had the DVD set and bought two right away, one as my brother’s Christmas present and one for me. One of my best ideas ever. I’m pretty sure a thread over here prompted me to go look for the DVDs.

Guess what I’ll be watching in the next few days…?

THIS

As soon as I read ‘grenades’ I remembered the one getting stuck in the wing.

I figure, no matter what someone’s ethnicity and culture might be, once they try to kill you with grenades, you can declare that they deserve what they get when they blow themselves up with one

Hoist with his own petard, as it were.

.

Still enjoy this show, but I wish I could afford a pair of Bose noise reduction headphones that could filter out the Bandit barking. God that gets on my nerves!

Good boy!

The only two things I remember are the Walking Eye and Race finding out that the purple dye won’t wash off and he’s stuck with it until it wears off.

“Oh no!”

At least the heathen monkeys got a good look.

(Yeah, the old dialogue could get a little…um…yeah. )

Yes it could, Ranchoth, but Jonny Quest still remains one of the best cartoons I’ve ever seen. The plots were pretty intelligent for a kid’s show. Jade and Dr. Zinn are great supporting characters.

That phrase is censored for the DVDs.:frowning:

I loved the show when I was growing up, and the episode you mention here is the one I remember as being rather scared of. Hey, I was a lot younger then!

What was the one with the cavemen? Or some really primitive tribe, some Germans had sort of enslaved them. Kind of funny to hear this guy in a loincloth going “Kommen zie hier” (Not sure of the spelling.

Okay, now I’ve read the rest of the thread I see that others remember that episode too, and found the title.

And I may order the DVDs. I wonder if Amazon will notice a spike in sales of this item?

I love Jonny, have way too much merch from both shows. I really wanted the coloring book, but only had the ad for it on the back of my coloring book. Probably something lame, but now I have a few… Jonnyand others coloring pages!

What, like I’m arguing? Hell, when I was growing up, they still reran the old wartime Looney Toons and Disney shorts. Plenty of historical-context horror to go around in classic, quality work.

(And I still find it refreshing that JQ actually *shot and killed people *onscreen, when the situation demanded. Try doing that today in a “kid’s” show outside a Very Special Episode. :smack: )

They actually played it uncensored on Cartoon Network when they were rerunning an old episode, just a couple of years ago. (I’m guessing the censor monkeys were asleep at the switch that morning. Oops. )

One memorable scene with Jade. She is trying to get information from some oriental flunky, his memory keeps failing until she pays him more and more cash, fed up with the continual shakedown she pulls a pistol on him and his memory problems resolve themselves.
