But, ignoring Capt’n Ed, there is a point about black run countries. Are there any that have been successful? You have to admit, the track record of black leaders would certainly point to the hypothesis that they are not able to rule a country well.

Well, many of the countries in Africa are rich in natural resources and have warm water ports. I can see how a country like Zambia, with great land, but no port and bad neighbors could support that argument, but what about Mozambnique or the Ivory coast?
And why not even one success story? Of course, it is possible that some black leaders are doing great but the press has ignored them. I would liek to hear of them if this is the case.
A lot of the countries in Africa are also former colonial holdings, who after centuries of occupation were told in the late 19th-to-mid-20th centuries, “Well, sorry we exploited all your resources, screwed up your internal politics and fomented cultural discord for all that time. We’ll be leaving now–have fun cleaning up!”

I’ve travelled all over Africa. The Darkie Continent is in turmoil. It is easy to blame it on the Colonial Powers, but how does one explain the problems with Liberia?
Liberia, the Negro Republic, was set up by men from the USA as a haven for blacks who wanted to return to Africa. Whites were excluded. No whites could own property except the Dutchman, who was the Harbor Pilot. They never could train a Liberian for the job.
Whites were segregated in what was called The Firestone Compound. This all sounds like racism, doesn’t it? Odd that nobody ever brought this to the worlds attention. In fact, black racism was very profitable. We donated/squandered billions of dollars on the place. It is in shambles today. Ih the recent Civil War, the winner had the loser for dinner. A Civil War was fought in the 19th Century, too. Seems some fellow wanted Liberia out of the slave trade. He lost. Liberia remained an active country in the trade, rounding up fellow Africans, selling them to traders from the New World.
AIDS affects 25% of African Blacks. In SA, which we boycotted into submission, the epidemic has not hit the white population remaining there.

Just for the record, Botswana is a stable, relatively wealthy country in Africa. Its economy is based on agriculture and mining. Independent since 1966. No civil wars. A democratic government.
The current crop of African countries are primarily European creations. It is a fallacy that all Africans are of one culture. They have problems, but how many European lands out there where there is warfare?

The chinese faced the same problem coming to the US and did not suffer the adverse effects. South Africa was able to be successful in Africa for a while. Can the Black ruler phenomenon be explained soley by colonialism?
Just as conjecture, is it possible that blacks do not organize well? I know I am going to get flamed for this, but we have no problem saying that the chineses and orientals are smart, hard workerrs, or that Germans are meticulous or that blacks are great atheletes. Could it be that various races have various negative traits that are more or less inherent?

With regards to present-day Africa, I think PLDenison is on the right track. After 18th-19th C imperialism Africa is a number of ‘nations’ of very different ethnic groups, languages, and religions which were organized and clumped together by colonial powers against their will, and in this century are now trying to cope with the consequences, much like what has happened lately in the Balkans. With little autonomous rule in the last couple of centuries these countries also have not had the opportunity to work out their own governments in detail, and since the early part of this century have only now been able to start working with notions of ‘nation’ and other concepts that Europe went through in the 19th and 20th Cs (rather brutally, I might add). Many African countries have experimented with the same systems Europe experimented with in the past (Communism in various forms, fascism, etc). I think generally Africa may politically be where Europe was a while ago, only now having a chance to work out autonomous rule, but other societies which already went through the same changes aren’t as accepting, for it is, of course, the 21st century, no?

I think many blacks are succeeding quite well these days. The issue that is brought up, however, is not that they were subjugated up until 100 years ago, it is that they were subjugated by law in the South and social pressure in the North until fewer than 30 years ago.
The related question regarding Asian immigrants is that Asians were, if anything, forced to maintain the cultural bonds that made them a society during the entire 90 year period that they were discriminated against. In contrast, for the first 250 years that blacks were imported, efforts were made to destroy their society/culture; most of those efforts were deliberate. After the civil war, there was a further effort to discourage the vast majority of blacks from becoming financially successful, creating a culture in which it was not wise to become “too” successful.
Asians were denied citizenship and certain access to the government. Blacks were called citizens–then lynched if they attempted to exercise the responsibilities of citizenship (voting, running for office).
There were Asians, successful in the West, who were targeted by jealous individuals for sanctions and lawsuits to break their success if it extended into the white community.
Blacks in the South were often threatened if their success inside the black community appeared to threaten white interests.

There are several separate issues regarding the black-led nations (particularly in Africa).
When the white colonial powers pulled out, they generally pulled the civil service infrastructure with them. In many cases, the colonial powers had never permitted any local inhabitants to actually hold public positions above a certain level. There were no experienced ministers at the administrative levels to actually plan for multi-year operations, etc.
Africa was the great unheralded battle ground for the Cold War. Any country that looked to be about to succeed following the principles of the Western Democracies was immediately flooded with Soviet-trained “freedom fighters.” Any country that even hinted that they might consider following a socialist program was immediately denied aid from the West–and if an authoritarian leader could be found that would give lip-service to following Washington or London, that country was immediately flooded with U.S.-trained “freedom fighters.”
If we are going to consider the failures of the African Nations–particularly if we want to look at the race of their leaders–we need to also look at the failures of South America. Very few nations on that continent can be held up as completely successful democracies and their leaders have generally been whites of Spanish or Portuguese descent. (Chile almost made it until the U.S. decided on an African-like coup intervention.) The South American nations, most of which are somewhat stable at this point, tend to be between 110 and 170 years old. Few African nations have reached 40.
The similarity between the nations of Africa and South America (aside from having larger nations meddling in their internal affairs) is that they arose from a tradition of top-down colonial rule. There was no long tradition of elected governments. The U.S. and Canada each had a period of time where they got used to sending people to the state or provincial capitol to enact local policy. They had a period of time to get used to the idea that if you lost today’s election, you gathered your party and tried again in two years rather than pulling out your musket or AK47 and changing things to your way immediately.
I would guess that if those nations can be left to develop without interference (or maybe, gasp, with actual assistance), we will see the African nations slowly straighten out in the same way that South America has slowly straightened out.

I’m convinced it all boils down to IQ. There is a book on this subject called WHY RACE MATTERS, by Dr. M. Levin, a Prof. at CCNY.
It points out the Sub-Sahara blacks suffer from an inferior IQ, and the sad fact is that this, like kinky hair, broad nostrils, dark skin etc., is an inherited trait.
Apparently, only 16% of American blacks have an IQ above 100, the average for whites in the USA. The book has been condemned by liberals as being racist, but if so, so what? He presents facts, including the information that Asians score 105 here, above the white IQ.
The man himself is a Jew, living in NYC, and a Prof. at CCNY. Not exactly your profile for a racist.
For a look at people who succeeded in the USA, after suffering greatly in their own country, look at what the Irish went through, and reflect on where they are today.
The Later Penal Laws

2.He was forbidden to receive education.
3.He was forbidden to enter a profession.
4.He was forbidden to hold public office.
5.He was forbidden to engage in trade or commerce.
6.He was forbidden to live in a corporate town or within five miles thereof.
7.He was forbidden to own a horse of greater value than five pounds.
8.He was forbidden to purchase land.
9.He was forbidden to lease land.
10.He was forbidden to vote.
11.He was forbidden to keep any arms for his protection.
12.He was forbidden to hold a life annuity.
13.He could not be guardian to a child.
14.He could not attend catholic worship.
15.He could not himself educate his child.
The law soon came to recognise an Irishman in Ireland only for the purpose of
repressing him.
The Volunteer movement in the 1780’s first began to take the edge off Protestant
prejudice. In the year 1793, an Act was passed relieving the Catholics of many of their
disabilities - in theory at least. Another thirty-six years were to elapse before the next
step was taken, under compulsion from the O’Connell agitation, and the Act known as
Catholic Emancipation made law.
Bubba - you left out one point - marrying into the “white” power structure. Few “Irish-Americans” are pure Irish. They were assimilated by marriage into the German and Anglo power structure.
Interestingly enough, the same will happen with Hispanic Americans, especially with other Catholics (i.e., Irish, German and Italians).
If all those Sub-Saharan people have such “low intelligence”, don’t you think that it could have something to do with the fact that they are probably the most poorly nourished region on earth? Study after study has shown that poor childhood nutrition can lead to mental development damage. If the child doesn’t have an adequate diet by the time he’s four or five, the damage is irreversable.
Based on all of this, I’m guessing that our pal Captain Ed lived on a diet of lead paint chip, cigarette butts and cans of frosting in his early years.

The thing to remember about IQ tests is that they are mainly good for finding out how good you are at doing IQ tests; and the best way to raise your measured IQ is simply to practice doing IQ tests. Attempting to express something as multifaceted as intelligence in one small integer seems a bit silly to me.

cannibalism world-wide. Here cannibalism is taken to mean the routine
consumption of human flesh, not the antics of deranged murderers or

Part of the problem of documenting this topic is that the reports appear in
many different places. A major source of this material is Garry Hogg:
Cannibalism and Human Sacrifice (Robert Hale & Co., 1958), because
fortunately Hogg undertook the task of collecting many diverse reports into
one book. This archive would probably not have been possible without his
work.
There can be little doubt that it was the white man's extreme abhorrence of
cannibalism which led to its demise. There can also be little doubt that these
age-old practices still persist in remote regions.

astounding stoicism of the victims, who thus witness the bargaining
for their limbs piecemeal, is only equalled by the callousness with
