My screen flickers after re-start or end of hybernation, as if the focus is jumping from program to program or one quick-launch icon to another.
When I open a browser (I have to doule-click, while usually one click will do), the address line flickers. When pressing “start” on the bottom left, the menu closes right away, not allowing me access.

This usually just goes way after a while, to return later.

Yes – I ran a virus scan, Spybot and Adaware – did not solve the issue. I retored to an early date – did not fix this either.

Before reinstalling XP, I wonder if there are other ideas out there.

Try a different mouse. It’s a quick way to rule out a fairly basic problem - particularly with optical mice, they can foul up in unusual way. It also sounds like a possible keyboard problem. Again, easy to eliminate.
