The Know-it-all Thread (A Game)

Lets face it; this message board is a gathering place for nerdy, hand-raising, “Ooh Teacher, I know! I know!” types. (Yeah, myself included.) And so, I have devised a game for us.

I start with a simple statement of fact. Then the next poster follows with some trivial factoid relevant to my post, then the next poster follows with some trivial factoid relating to the second post, and so on, and so on.

Example: Original post: “I just got back from San Antonio.”
Second post: “You know, San Antonio is where the Alamo is located.”
Third post: “Yeah, and the Alamo was featured in the movie Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure.”
Fourth post: “You know, Cyndi Lauper was the uncredited singer of the theme from Pee Wee’s Playhouse.”

Etc, etc.

Include enough information in your post to give the next poster something to play with, of course.

OK, here’s the real opening post:

Hey, I just got back from a trip to Wisconsin.

They make a lot of cheese in Wisconsin.

Did you know that, besides being justifiably famous for their cheeses, Wisconsin has over 14,000 lakes, the largest being Lake Winnebago.

Did you know that Winnebago means “those of the dirty water”?

You know, Wallace likes cheese. Especially wendsleydale.

Winnebagaos are Native American people formerly inhabiting the Green Bay area of Wisconsin, with present-day populations in Wisconsin and Nebraska.

You know, the word “Winnebago” has become the general descriptive term, or common slang, if you will, for a motorhome.

Winnebago motor homes are oftened referred to as “Winnies.” That’s what the kids on MTV’s Road Rules always call theirs.

I have nothing to say about Winnebagos. But I can’t believe that no one pointed out that cheese is made with rennet which is derived from the lining of cow’s stomachs.

That MTV used to show videos? And the first video that they should was Video killed the radio star.

“Video Killed the Radio Star” was performed by the one-hit wonder the Buggles.

The Buggles were two guys (Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes) who had previously been in a band called The Camera Club with Hans Zimmer and Thomas “She Blinded Me With Science” Dolby. The Buggles broke up in 1980 before the video ever aired.

Trevor Horn of the Buggles replaced Jon Anderson on vocals for Yes in 1980.

Was the name of an Illinois Senator who ran as an independent Presidential Nominee in 1980. He was not the same man as the lead singer for Yes, even though it was 1980. Coincidence???

There is a country singer named John Anderson, he spells his first name with an ‘H’, can’t be the same one. He does two of my favorite songs, ‘Seminole Wind’ and ‘Straight Tequilla Night’.

The Seminoles never surrendered to the US Governmanet.

Manet is a famous impressionist painter.

US Govern Manet’s younger brother, Edouard Manet, was a famous French artist who painted *Le Dejeuner sur L’Herbe, *a famous picture with a naked lady in it.

BASTARD!

…still, mine was funnier and had more information in it. {insert smiley here}

If travelling to Brussels, “Dirty lowdown Belgian bastards” is a better insult than “Sprouts” or “Phlegms.”

Or, if I’m supposed to use Uke’s former post, wasn’t Herbe the name of the Love Bug, or was it that annoying elf?
