The Lap the Attracts the Cats

Hallgirl1 is gone on a 7 day cruise. No, don’t become envious of her–it’s with her neurotic boyfriend (who has OCD for which he refuses treatment of any type) and her boyfriend’s sister (equally neurotic) and their parents (who coined the phrase neurotic). It sounds like seven days of Hell. Anyhoo, I’m cat sitting her three cats, Mia, Toby and Squeaky.

In addition to my four, Sam, Jack, Maya and Kate.

Yes, I currently have seven cats in my household and it appears that my lap is the place to be, even by those cats which had not, in the past, been attracted to my lap.

It is not physically possible for me to fulfill the demand of said cats in laps.

Very cute pride you have there.

Stretch out on the couch with legs up to make a bit more room on lower legs and torso?

OMG, I do have a pride, don’t I?

I think the number of cats you list (and one picture had two together but you only mentioned one on that link) counts as a pride.

The pic with Maya contains Sam. For some reason, my pics of the girls are far few than the ones of the boys. What can I say? The boys are more photogenic than the girls are and love posing and having their picture taken.

[pats lap furiously] I have room!

Awww. They’re sweet.

Obviously, it’s not a pride but a clowder. /Sheldon Cooper

I consider both terms acceptable. /me

Clutter is also a collective noun for cats.

At least all of yours agree on something. My daughter is visiting for the holidays, and brought her two cats with her. We already had four cats in residence. There’s been a whole lot of hissing going on.

My current feline owner pretty much freaked out when we had a very young kitten as a houseguest for a few days (found a black kitten, estimated age 4-5 weeks, abandoned in the parking lot right before Halloween). Allie’s about two years old, MUCH bigger than a kitten, and seemed to be very much afraid of our little visitor. Much hissing, growling, and hiding.

I love cats - I have 2, one of whom seems to prefer me to anyone else in the whole world - but the first thing I thought upon seeing the pics was “How many litter boxes do you need for that crowd??”

Honestly, the main thing keeping me from considering more than 2 cats is that I don’t have a practical place to put more litter boxes. And scooping isn’t one of my favorite chores - I can’t imagine multiplying it…

If it wasn’t for that (and a spousal unit who says NO MORE CATS!!) I’d probably have a couple more at least. Oh well, I’ll enjoy yours vicariously!

Hmm… Gives me an idea for a no-so-niche marketing idea.

Surgical lap enhancement for residents of multiple cat households.

We had numerous cats when I was growing up. Not only did my mom’s wheelchair create a perma-lap but the footrests could handle the overflow.
They also decided that rather than walking to the other side of the house, it was easier to wait for the bus to go by.

The MCRTA line. I know it well.

Oh, there was a pretty fair amount of hissing and growling in the beginning–we pretty much told them all to cut it out, and 24 hours later, everyone is snuggling. Except for Squeaky who is hiding under the bed and only comes out at night when everyone else is asleep.

Two large litter boxes, that are “cleaned” (tilted) twice daily in an ideal world, once a day in a realistic world.

Cats CAN learn…if it’s something that they WANT to learn.
