I wouldn’t have read it that way. But it was a poorly written sentence, and it’s hard to know what the poster meant. If I had to guess, it does seem like the poster would have recorded it, despite thinking it was illegal.
It just reads to me like she thought it would be morally wrong to record, which no one here can fault, and also that she mistakenly thought it was illegal to record. When you aren’t a lawyer or an officer of the law, you occasionally are mistaken about the fine points of the law-Those that know the law probably encounter this all the time.
Do all threads in the Pit get derailed this badly? 4 pages and maybe half a page of it has anything whatsoever to do with the OP.
Obviously not all. But it’s important to point out that “all” can be used literally or colloquially, and it’s unclear which one you meant; we should spend several pages discussing whether or not you actually meant to ask whether *all *Pit threads get derailed this badly. Which would be absurd.
Also, “maybe half a page” could be construed as a factual assertion; please provide detailed statistics for the content of this thread, broken down by post, paragraph, and specific word. For instance, I’m not certain that this posthas anything to do with the OP, but I’m very open-minded and could be persuaded.
.
After seeing all those John Oliver shows on YouTube, I wonder more and more if the abortion-discussion isn’t a huge attempt to distract voters Rep ANF Dem from more important issues. Issues that actually have to do with money and power status quo, but that were seemingly too complex for most voters.
Fucking sad.
And no, I’m not going to do a post count. Enjoy the time wasted, I’m going back to sections where things actually get discussed.
It was a joke. Lighten up.
.
Naturally. This law is yet another example of how the anti-abortion movement is about nothing more than tormenting women, and the anti-abortion members of this board know it. So of course they are going to derail the thread as far away from the original subject as they can; they know their position is indefensible and blatantly malignant, so rather than argue* for* it they try to distract everyone from it.
I got it…and thought it was funny.
However, define “joke…”
Yeah, but if you asked 20 random people if it was a joke, would they agree?
Now, that’s a joke that’s really funny!!
But those people are hypocrites if they believe they should be able to force a pregnant woman who wasn’t raped to carry to term. That’s the point. If abortion is wrong, it’s always wrong. If it’s a right, it’s always a right.
Honestly, I’ve always thought the abortion discussion was a means of attacking the reproductive freedoms of women…notice how they’re starting to attack birth control now, particularly as it relates to the Affordable Care Act? The so-called “bathroom bills” are a much better example of what you’re describing…the Republicans have latched onto a complete non-issue to arouse panic in their voting base. In my state, conservative voters are happily throwing their support behind the politicians who are “protecting women” by keeping the scary transgender people from using the restroom, while ignoring (or being completely ignorant of) the fact that these same politicians are the ones who have destroyed the public education system, refused to raise teacher pay to the extent that the best teachers are fleeing the state, and have implemented ridiculous taxes that are aimed at the lower and middle classes.
This is hilarious - Utah threw in the standard rape/incest exception, which is already absurd and hypocritical, into a law designed to stop the (presumed) pain of abortion, but not abortion itself.
Which just reveals what everyone already knows, that it’s really about trying to stop abortion itself.
Because nothing’s funnier than harassment, legally mandated sexual assault and terrorism, right?
Yeah…but that wouldn’t allow **Bricker **to derail the thread into a meaningless sidetrack on the legality or otherwise of Spam’s actions - and showcase his obviously superior legal learning thus proving that his position on abortion is the morally superior and right one because law = morally correct
Nah, the prolife movement is about stopping abortion. The way they do that is by tormenting women.
Well, my position on abortion is, in fact, morally superior and correct.
But that has nothing to do with the sidetrack about spam. I think the incident was fabricated. Others think it isn’t; spam stands behind the account as factual.
So it’s very possible to believe:
(1) Abortion is morally wrong and **spam was lying.
(2) Abortion is morally wrong and **spam was telling the truth.
(3) Abortion is morally neutral and **spam was lying.
(4) Abortion is morally neutral and **spam was telling the truth.
The two propositions are simply unrelated.
You mean the anti-abortion movement. How is bombing clinics and shooting doctors “prolife.”
The simple truth is that no society that banned abortion ever gave women equal rights. To say abortion should be illegal is the start of making us second class citizens again.
One of the anti-abortion protestors at the local women’s health clinic has a sign “Everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.” Yeah, Hitler was really pro-choice and for women’s rights. That’s why he told his soldiers to go out and rape Aryan women in hopes of impregnating them to make the master race.
Let’s see how that works for other things:
Islam the religion of peace? You mean the Religion of Death! How is suicide bombing “peace”.
No, I’m just polite enough to use the word that they prefer as an identifier. You seem to have somehow confused the fact that I use the word prolife with the idea that I am prolife. I would have thought the crack about them tormenting women would have put paid to that idea.
