The Least Fun Thing Ever. Advice?

For the past year, I have been having this odd condition in my lower left leg. It consists of very painful raised nodules, and an extremely swollen ankle joint. I am 32 years old, female, and before this happened, an active snowboarder, rollerblader, hiker…etc.

I have been to 5 different doctors, and had biopsies, physical therapy, steroids, and countless other treatments. Two weeks ago, a rhumetologist at Brigham & Women’s declared that he had seen just 3 other cases like mine, there was no name for it, and the best treatment for it is a drug called Methotrexate.

Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug, used for certain cancers, and rhumetiod arthritis. I started taking it this morning. Suck-diddly-uks. I am nauseated, and have a weird slimy/metallic thang going on in my mouth. Barfing has become a hobby.

Has anyone had any experience with this drug? Is it gonna get worse? Better? Can I keep my hair? What’s the best way to combat tummy upset? Help?

My mom takes that-- she hasn’t had the best expierence with it, either. How long have you been taking it? I can ask her what they told her the side effects would be. I am sorry that you feel so ill.
