So, I visited my folks last week and they have HBO, whereas I did not. I decided to watch The Leftovers, because it seemed like an interesting idea. I have, FWIW, never seen Lost.
I thought it was completely brilliant. I was mesmerized! What a fantastic treatment about loss and grief. Unlike others, I really don’t care if they ever explain what happened with the disappearance; I’m much more in it for the reaction to this incredible event and how people deal with it and try to understand it. I’ve never really seen anything that explores that topic in such a way. Exceeded every single one of my expectations.
It’s actually making me consider springing for HBO next year. As much as I enjoy Game of Thrones, I care much less about seeing that a year after airing than waiting to see The Leftovers.
