In 1994, a first-term congressman pushed for a bill that, among other things, would have required all able-bodied inmates at Federal prisions to perform prison work. The bill also would have abolished all “luxuries” in Federal institutions, such as radios, televisions, and telephones. In a separate bill, this congressman also proposed to take away workout equipment from inmates. Clearly, he was in favor of felons doing the hardest time possible.
That congressman was Duke “I Took $2.4 Million in Bribes” Cunningham. One can only wonder how he feels about TVs and phones in prison now.
What is it with all of these supposedly moral, upstanding legislators getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar? Do they really think that they’re going to be able to cover their tracks? When I first read about the buyer of “Duke” Cunningham’s house taking a $700,000.00 loss on said house, I knew something wasn’t right. No buyer in their right mind will make a mistake that big. Duke Cunningham also broke down and cried as he confessed his crimes. Well, I’m glad that he at least felt shame over what he did.
