The ads are fun and entertaining. They entertain liberals and piss off Trump but they probably aren’t going to draw in any undecided or non-participating voters.
That’s not the intent. The ad is aimed at likely donors, not likely voters.
Which is straight out of the Republican playbook. It’s what all the Trump campaign PACS and outside groups do. It’s what the official Trump campaign does, although they also use donor money to pay outsized amounts for rents and events at Trump properties. Donor money pays Trump’s legal bills as well. And most of the ads they do run are aimed at donors and not wavering or unmotivated voters.
I’ve read a lot of reporting on the various ways in which donor money is diverted. It’s insane. They built this gigantic donation machine and spent what they took in on overpriced fundraising, then spent that or more fundraising and they next thing you know, they’ve raised a billion and they’re broke.
Lincoln Project is just doing what Republicans do. It’s why they fought for Citizens United.
I think that because the “trolling” ads are so good we tend to overlook the serious stuff they’ve done which is hard-hitting and very effective. The “Mourning in America” spot comes to mind.
That’s my impression, too. No matter how badly some want to believe that the Lincoln Project people are all corrupt hacks, it seems to me that some of them actually believe there is such a thing as decency (and that they deplore its lack in the current Administration).
Even the trolling ads have their place. Bully-worshipers aren’t deterred by messages about how vicious their bully is. They are deterred ONLY by messages about how ridiculous and despised their bully is.
Another particularly brutal one, that I’ve cited and linked a few times already, is “Names”, in which they lambaste all the Senators who have enabled him.
Learn. Their. Names.
And never ever trust them again.
Just wondering the possibility of getting that long of a photo montage of Trump hugging his children and other people, riding a train, speaking with constituents, and generally being positive and not an asshole. It think there is more footage of Trump dry humping flagpoles than any of these combined.
Senegoid: Yes, that’s a great video. I see it being retweeted on Twitter every day. (And I’ve done so myself, more than once.)
Mickyfinn: You’re probably right: no such montage could be made of Trump. Unless they just pasted his head over Biden’s. But then people would wonder why the hell Trump is hugging Biden’s children…
Let’s see if they run “He lost $50 million a year since 2012. And he’s still losing money!” Both trolling and undermines the base’s opinion of him being good with money.
Can the Democrats rent these ads from the Lincoln project so they can run them in markets that are not seeing them? This is good stuff, I especially like the Captain Sully comments on Trumps lack of leadership.
I just saw an ad, at the bottom of a different thread, proclaiming plummeting poll numbers for Moscow Mitch. If true, do we have the Lincoln Project to thank?
Unless something has come out super-recently, all of the polling on the Kentucky Senate race has given McConnell a sizeable lead. According to 538’s page on the race, the last poll to be done on the race was by Quinnipiac University, over two weeks ago, which gave McConnell a 12 point lead.
Of course, that poll was done before RBG’s passing, so it’s possible that things have changed in the meantime, but I’m skeptical.
Damn! And it comes from Sully! This is a good thing! He’s telling us to vote him out. And this is a guy who you damn well listen to if he says, “Put on your seatbelt!”
Yeah, Sully is a definite draw: in terms of classic all-American heroes, it’s pretty hard to top him. I wonder if this will give some mild Trump supporters pause.
Anecdotally, among military veterans that I know, the aviators seem to hate Trump or find him distasteful at best. It’s asking a lot to expect anyone who was drilled in rigid procedures, like pilots, to admire his reckless and impulsive attitude. Boots-on-the-ground infantry guys seem to like him though.
