The Little Master presumptive celebration thread

so close, so close!

Sachin Tendulkar is poised to make astonishing history. He is 11 runs away from recording his 100th international century. I’m hoping I don’t curse him but let’s be fair, his career so far has not suffered from all the ill-will that opposing teams must send his way.

Let’s get ready to give him a cheer!

He has done it! Brilliant.

It has taken him since 1990 to achieve this and he deserves all the plaudits that are going to come his way.

A great sportsman and an all-round good egg.

Yes, congratulations to him. Very well done and a testament to the strength of his career overall. I did get the feeling though that he was going to get it against Bangladesh - indeed, I half expected them to play Bangladesh over and over again until he got it.

Would have been amusing if he’d got it and retired, as in permanently, on the spot. Scorecard could have read.

SR Tendulkar Retired (permanently, couldn’t even be bothered to field) 100

It’s amusing that this happened just a few days after ESPN posted a story arguing that it would be poetic, in some way, if Sachin finished with 99.

Yes, a fantastic acheivement. And the struggle to move from 99 to 100 just underlines how astonishing an achievement this is.

Oh fantastic. So happy for him. The last time he missed it I thought he was going to have to retire without having achieved it. Unbelievable.

Video of him doing it.

Ok, now its time to score two consecutive ducks.

Poetic that Gavaskar was commentating.

And apt that it was an elegant little dab for a single as well.

Wouldn’t have seemed fitting had it been a mighty slog over long on.

India…lost.. Made my day.

I admire Tendulkar as a batsman.

His longevity in the game and the amount of cricket now played allowed him to achieve this goal.

I don’t know that in itself it is something that is miraculous. However, we should rightfully, celebrate it.

He was 16 when he started. He will be 39 now. Many of his collegues were not even born when he started. He has outlasted both his generation and those who came after. Case in point he started around the same time as Ian Healy. Heals retired and was replaced by Adam Gilchrist who has also retired. Both played near a 100 tests.
