The "Longest Election Campaign in Modern Canada" Thread

What struck me was that by the logic presented in the editorial, the G&M should be endorsing the NDP. The Conservative economic plan is the basis for their endorsement, and that plan is so good that the NDP plan is exactly the same. So I conclude that you actually can have the Conservative economy without Harper by voting orange. :stuck_out_tongue:

That format is very difficult to wade through. I saw some good questions, and some tactical evasions of said questions: did he ever answer the salient ones?

Not at all. Many comments directly addressed that fact too.

Shit’s going down at the National Post. Apparently when the NP’s editorial board got its standing orders to endorse the Tories Coyne agreed, but he had plans on personally endorsing another party (not surprising as while Coyne is a true-blue, small ‘c’ conservative he’s been one of the most vocal highlighter of the current government’s unethical behaviour).

However when the higher-up heard this they AXED his editorial. Coyne might not stay if he is being censored like this.

One of my favorite mock endorsement/response

If the Tories lose, the CBC might still be around and Coyne will replace Rex Murphy on Cross Canada Checkup.

Pretending to care what callers say couldn’t be any worse than writing that shit for the National Pest.

I don’t know which is more bizarre: the Postmedia endorsement of “sure, he’s attacked the pillars of our democracy like Elections Canada and the Justice system but he’s the only one who’ll stop the terrorists” or the Globe&Mail "vote for Harper and hopefully he’ll resign afterwards ".

Ok just kidding. The G&M one is way worse but they’re both pretty stupid. Almost like the endorsements were sabotaged by the staff.

Boy. Talk about paranoia.

  1. The PC’s had two members, And we’re soon to become a part of the Conservative Reform Alliance Party (CRAP) zombie apocalypse.

And now there’s this.

Bad link, Biffster.

A former employee who no one has ever heard of changes parties. Hardly earth shattering.

Why bad, children?

So after those torturous un-dorsements of the Conservative party, a number of papers in the same chains replaced their front pages will full-page political ads reading “Voting Liberal will cost you”.

We’ve seen it claimed in this thread that the media in Canada are all slanted to the left, but watching this display, hopefully some people will give up that self-serving fantasy.

Seriously, what is this? Full front page replaced with scary ads warning readers not to support the opposition? If anyone ever tells me state-funded media like the CBC are inadequately impartial, this week’s “they’re terrible but vote for them”, added to “we’ll sell everything but the masthead to the party in power” will be my standard counterexample.

The sun will still rise on Tuesday morning and nothing will have changed: well, in the short term. In the long term the implications will become apparent.

Your other link worked for me but all these tapatalk jpegs force a download that never work. Just sayin

Firefox on my desktop said there was a a script that wouldn’t load. Safari said the page didn’t exist. iCab Mobile on the iPad rejected it, too.

The Globe must have fixed the thing.

YELLOW JOURNALISM

Sign of the desperate times for Harper and the Con-men. Unfortunately for them, not that many people actually read the physical newspaper anymore.

Nice banana-yellow adverts there.
