The "Look and Feel" of this place

If I’m not mistaken, this forum has had the same look for many, many years.

I know that the appearance of this forum is not the most important factor. But, today I saw a forum that just revamped their look and it makes an incredible difference.

Take a look at this forum and see what you think?

I should warn you that this forum has very little moderation and all the members there would likely get banned if they ever posted in here.

So, you may want to remove this post after reading it and just visit this other forum to see what you think.

I think a “renovation” to the way this forum appears would give it a fresh new look and would make it much more attractive looking.

I like ours better. The other one looks busy to me; I prefer my eyes to be drawn to the text, not the colors or graphics.

I didn’t care for the look of that site.

That other place looks awful. This place is easier on the eyes.

The Dope looks just fine to me, but that’s only because I’ve been here 8 years. If I were a noob, I would probably find it dowdy and lacking in visual pep.

I certainly wasn’t trying to imply that anyone here made any errors - except perhaps for that person who thinks it’s cool to put down a newcomer for trying to make a helpful suggestion.

Taking a look at that site, I have a really good idea. Leave this place the way it is.

You may have a valid point about this place looking dated, but I don’t think that other forum is a good example of a better look.

How would you like it if I came over to your home and started rearranging your furniture? You don’t know me, I’m just some random guy wandering by on the street. I noticed that you left the front door open, so I came in and put your fridge in the bathroom, your couch in the attic, and your bed out in the back yard. While I’m there, maybe I’ll paint your walls with hideous colors and hardwire your TV to pick up only Jesus channels. Because hey, I think it would be better that way.

Oakminster: he’s not doing any re-arranging, he’s making a suggestion and offering a new idea. I don’t know about you, but I like to think I’m always open from new ideas, even from newcomers… even from old-timers. Being snotty at someone for daring to offer a suggestion that you don’t like isn’t what I’d call welcoming.

Lazlo: we get all types here, those who are willing to listen to new ideas and those who aren’t. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think we’re happier where we are.

If you think that is me being snotty, you haven’t been paying attention. That was me being nice, and patiently explaining something with a reasonable analogy.

And here’s a new idea for you. A mod being unnecessarily snotty for no damn reason is more than a little annoying. Try not doing it anymore.

Lazlo Hapsburg - What is it about the other board that you think is more interesting?

I wandered around a bit, and I can’t say I found anything that appealed to me. Neon green “NEW” signs, animated signatures and avatars, and a what, green digital version of plaid?
Maybe it’s just me, looking for faults, but what is it that you like?
