Happy Happy Birthday Birthday SO and Anaamika!!!
Hooray! Happy Birthday!
Now, back to my crappy mood. Which wasn’t helped by reading the thread title in GQ ‘Who feeds morbidly obese people?’ The thread’s intent is to discuss people who are house bound due to their weight and their enablers. But the title and some ‘fatty’ comments just struck me the wrong way.
I’m at work now. Gotta go.
First off…
HAPPY BIRFDAY TO LUNCH AND MEEKS!!
Have consumed an “everything” bagel with light cream cheese and am having a cuppa. It is a very gloomy, wet Firday hereabouts.
Today’s assignment is to get quotes for 300 1-gb customized flash drives for one of the clients. We put our press kits on them and the journalists love them. Sure they can just erase our stuff and use it for their own but it will still have our client’s logo. Pretty cool.
Tonite will be eye-talian restaurant take-out and a window shop at the puppy store. No, I would never buy there, but I love to look at all the little tykes. They are sooooooo keee-ute!
Everyone have a great day! Toodles!
Tupug
Ow. rosie, that was bright. Grump.
Happy birthday to the birthday people! I’ll do some big coding when I feel more awake. I’m tired and my throat hurts right now.
Pie, lots of sympathy about the pap smear and possible kidney infection. You poor thing. Both are no fun.
I sometimes get up cheerful. Not today. Today I’m fighting a cold. I should have stayed in bed. I might go back after breakfast, although I really need to scrub the kitchen and the oven. I promised myself I’d do it today. Sigh.
The cats are still in bed, because they’re lazy. It’s below freezing here, but not too cold, which is good, because I should go over to work and pick up my vacation pay.
Tea and cornbread time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEEKS!
Yes, I’ve been a bad Mumper. Either I’m busy at work or preoccupied with other things the last couple of days. I’ll reform, I promise! But right now I’m about to go on break.
Lunch, I know exactly what you mean…
Happy Birthday, Special One and Meeks!
Okay, all that coding is about as much effort as I want to put out today. But a very happy Firday to everyone as well!
Sorry about the incipient cold, LiLi. Papa Tigs is fighting one off, too. I hope you both win the fight!
And here’s hoping, if you do have a kidney infection, Pie, it gets cleared up quickly. Take care of yourself in the meantime, and I know how you feel about the pap smear. I’m due for one myself; I guess I should call the doctor one of these days.
Back to work. Since the job I was going laze with this weekend got ordered rush.
I slept surprisingly well, except that just before I woke up I was having a strange dream in which Bill Clinton was committing the fashion crime of wearing a blue denim blazer with rows of tiny studding down the lapels. Yeah, I don’t know where that came from, either.
It’s a bright, sunny day here today, even if it is cool; I think that helps my mood a bit. I do like sunshine, lots and lots of sunshine. I think I was meant to live in the tropics. It probably comes from my first few years in south India, where there’s definitely lots of sun and warmth. Papa Tigs and I need to retire to the South Pacific or something.
It’s cold this morning! It’s 41F! It’s nice and brisk out - sweater weather. I’m having a berry drink and a blueberry scone for breakfast, both are tasty. I had knitting class last night, and I’m almost finished with my cowl. I had to rip it back several times, and then got distracted, but it’s almost done. I made several egregious mistakes in the lace, but non-knitters won’t notice and knitters will have to get **very ** friendly to see them, since it’s a cowl. I’ve decided that instead of ripping this one out, again, I’ll just make another one. Mmmm, cashmere.
Happy Birthday, Special One and Meeks!
Yes, yes, yes–Happy Birthday, happy birthday to both of you…
I called work on my way to work and now I don’t go in until 1 pm. <sigh>
I’ll have to stay until 7-ish, though. [sub]I kinda really wanted to just do this little 4 hours 10-2 dealie, though. I mean, the money will be welcome and all that, but I hate sitting around, waiting for work to start…[/sub]
I like sun, but I like sunny and cool. With low humidity, and lots of snow. It’s been nice and cold for the last couple of weeks, but mostly cloudy. Oh, well. November is like that.
Mr. Lissar skipped his company’s Christmas party last night, and found out this morning that his boss won a wii in some game by cheating. His boss is proud of himself, and Mr. Lissar is unimpressed. Me, too.
Think I’ll go back to bed. I’ll dream of Napoleonic-era dragons. I’m steaming through Naomi Novik’s fun series about the Napoleonic Wars in an alternate world where dragons are the aerial force. It’s a lot of fun. Haze, you’d probably like it. Very light and fluffy and Patrick-O’Brian-Jane-Austen. The first is His Majesty’s Dragon. I’m on The Black Powder War.
That’s the worst, when I used to work afternoons, back in the bad old days, I would hate those days. It feels like the whole day is wasted because you really can’t DO anything before work, and even if you do something interesting or fun, what do you do after? Work.
Bleh.
What’s for lunch?
And who’s bringing it by for me?
I’ll definitely look for those books, LiLi.
Cloud Maiden’s cat just devoured a bunch of weed. She left it on the dining room table, and now it’s all gone, replaced by one cat licking her chops and looking content. It was enough for two joints, which is a lot to eat in one sitting, but so far she seems to be okay. More than okay, actually; she seems, er, happy. :dubious:
If it isn’t a fire on the porch, it’s a cat eating weed. I just want a quiet weekend. Really.
I s’pose you could always smoke the cat…
Oh, look–I have to go to work in 90 minutes. Gah, could the day go by any slower?
and the Husband ate the last–MY last-- peanut butter brownie. This is a killing offense or should be.
Well, now you gotta eat her catnip, just to show her who’s boss.
And that’s another difference between men and women - how the generally react to something like this. Along with men seeing colors, women seeing hues and shades (it’s white, not eggshell!)
What did he ever do to you. Big meanie!
gotti thanks for having my back on the pistachio thing. Glad to see my off-the-cuff memory isn’t deteriorating as fast as I thought it was.
I submitted my list of Top 100 albums of the '90s today. It doesn’t have anything on it by Nirvana, The Smiths or Morrissey, or any of the end-of-the-century pop tarts.
So here’s my new dress. Cloud Maiden wasn’t around when I took pictures so I had to use the mirror.
Happy Birthday, SpecialOne and Mika!!
I came home an hour early, just because. I need to get my car loaded for the Holiday Bazaar tomorrow, and I should strip the bed and do some laundry. I should. I will. Eventually. Probably.
Nothing exciting to share - just another day in paradise. At least the work week is over. So is November, come to think of it…
Eh? 'Splain that please. Not quite following you.
Nice dress, haze!
Thanks!
I think what Sean is saying is something similar to what my philsopher friend said about the difference between how men and women judge situations. Men tend to take the information given and come out with a response based on some kind of logic, while women tend to think outside of the given information and judge more based on human relationships. (Broadly speaking, of course.)
For example, if a man’s wife is dying of a disease, and the only cure available costs more than they can possibly afford at the moment, should the man steal the cure to save his wife, or let his wife die?
Typical male response: Steal the cure, because while it’s immoral to steal, it’s more immoral to let someone die when it can be prevented.
Typical female response: Couldn’t they get a loan, or set up a payment plan? There has to be some other kind of solution.
Of course, the hypothetical situation is presenting a false dilemma, but the point is that men will take the thought experiment at face value while women tend to think outside of the information provided.
Not that this is always true, but that’s how it tends to be, I suppose.
