I am a college art student and for a recent class project I have been assigned the task of picking out the “malaise of our society” in our hyper-modern era and then somehow translating and representing that theme in the physical form of an art piece or instillation.
When my professor first explained this project to my class, I was initially overwhelmed-such am expansive topic is hard to pin down and a even more difficult to then translate into and understandable piece of art which resonates with viewers. I ran through many possible ideas such as ANXIETY, LOSS OF CHILD INNOCENCE, or THE NEED TO BE NEEDED(LOVED). After much discussion and self debate, I finally have decided to delve into the theme of REGRET (both things done and opportunities we miss).
As for a my actual project, I am currently tying to work the idea of and hourglass (made out of some unconventional material/still in process). I want to fill the hourglass with anonymous/written accounts of people’s biggest regrets thus signifying the concept of slipping time and/or cape diem. However, I am having a rather difficult time finding people willing participate or share. So, if any of you viewers reading are willing or have time could you please write down your biggest regret on this google doc I have created (link below)- I will share the link with you. I truly feel this is an important topic which I am trying to turn transform into a beautiful and meaningful artwork. I would really like your feedback and to know your thoughts as far as what you guys feel is the “malaise of our society.” Thank you again if you choose to be a part of this process!!

That in order to have any sort of “real” career one needs to spend a small fortune, and yet people still choose to spend that time and money on subjects that, to the untrained observer, seem like a pretentious and impractical waste of time? AND don’t bother to do the work themselves?
Putting aside, for a moment, the statement in our registration agreement that we are opposed to proving help on homework,* I will note that this seems more a solicitation of opinions than a single topic which can be debated.
Off to IMHO.
- I have always figured that the prohibition was against seeking direct factual help, so this request seems to not be affected.

yes i understand tomndebb, sorry. I thought this might be considered solicitation (?), but I am truly curious as to people thought/opinions.
Our what now? By definition, the current era is always modern, unless you’re talking about being Modern, in which case that ended long before you were born, so don’t worry about it.
More to the point: Our society doesn’t have a special malaise. It’s the same malaise humanity has always had, which is knowing that we are going to die and, therefore, seeing the past as being better than the present or the future, and outright lying about the present and the past to make them fit that Procrustean bed of always seeing a golden age in the past.
Selfish, really: Nobody younger than you can have anything truly good, because the best is always behind us, so you get to watch the decline with a smug knowledge of how great it was which can never be falsified. I guess it’s how people cope with the fact others will continue to exist after they fade out: “Yes, you might be alive, but you’ll never know true happiness!”
Point being, golden ages have been in the past since Classical times, and never was a person born who claimed they were currently living through one.
