"The man In the iron mask"-Where Filmed?

I saw the last version of this film (with Gerard Depardeiu and Leo DiCaprio). It wasn’t a bad flick, but I have a few questions:
-is the story true/ did the King of France have a twin brother who was imprisioned wearing a mask?
-was the movie filmed at the palace of Versailles? Man, what a place!
Those fountains were cool-did the King actually turn on hideen fountains to wet his guests down?

The Straight Dope on the subject.

Don’t know the answer to your other questions.

I know that some of the film was made at The Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte. I have visited this house and is is very lavish, except it was never quite finished . This was because, as this link shows, the owner was locked up just after it was opened. Probably because the king suspected he was diverting government funds to build the Château. According to the IMDp , the other locations were Fontainebleau and Château de Pierrefonds.

Here in the UK, we have a fine comedy program ‘I’m sorry, I haven’t a clue’.

One comedian was asked to do ‘the diary of the man in the iron mask’, which included these gems:

Monday - got an itch inside my mask
Tuesday - decided to scratch the itch with a carrot. Carrot broke off. Now I have a carrot inside my mask.
Wednesday - could be worse. New chap next door is ‘the man in the iron underpants’
