Finally, the trailer for the very long awaited Terry Gilliam movie, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is released.
I have probably been waiting half of my 50 years for the chance to see this movie. It is hard to get a read on it from the trailer though. I do see the typical Gilliam look in some shots, but it seems toned down. The casting looks wonderful with Adam Driver and [del]Sam Lowery[/del] Jonathan Pryce in the leads. If the story is any good this could be a great film.
Lots of wild imagery (of course) in that trailer. Been thinking this would never see the light of day so thanks for the notice, Ike.
Rossy de Palma. She is going to steal it – well, ok, probably not like she stole Mujers al Borde, but still.
I read an article about this yesterday, and it went off on a wild tangent about Terry “defending Harvey Weinstein”, which I don’t think he really did. Maybe someone was getting paid by the word.
Film looks interesting, though.
About bloody time. Jonathan Pryce looks perfect as the Man Who Would Be Don Quixote.
Looks good and I look forward to it, but I’d still love to see a straight-up adaptation of Cervantes’ novel. (The last one I can think of was a decent-but-not-spectacular made-for-TV version with John Lithgow in the late nineties/early 00s.)
And/or a decent film/TV adaptation of Man of La Mancha, maybe as a live TV musical. With Brian Stokes Mitchell.
I’ve been awaiting this movie for quite some time, hadn’t any hope left for it and am surprised that the movie finally has been made, but the trailer lacks the special Terry Gilliam touch for me. I don’t know how to describe it, something all his great movies have, a special queerness, otherness, that isn’t present in this trailer. And I like this weirdness of his. But trailers sometimes haven’t much to do with the finished product, so there’s hope.
