The man with the swastika tattoo

Well, you think this guy advocates genocide, so I’d say you’re better at what you do, than I am at what I do, for sure.

Actually, I said the OP should ask him what’s up with the swastika and judge him by the answer. What’s your issue with that?

I think the OP should just give the guy the URL to this thread. Then he can do an “Ask the 40-something British guy with a swastika tattoo” thread in MPSIMS.

Problem solved.

You said, “I don’t have to tolerate the admiration of genocide.”

Perhaps you type too fast?

If you have a guy who sports a Nazi tattoo and still believes in what it stands for, then yes, it’s fair to assume that he’s OK with some genocide. Now, we don’t know if this guy actually still believes in it, which is why some of us said we like the idea of asking him. As many have suggested, it might be a youthful indiscretion or have some other palatable reason.

The OP might also feel like he doesn’t have enough invested in this relationship to ask or care, which is also a fine approach.

As for what you do, I’m a bit baffled. But keep fighting the good fight.

I said earlier that I would ask about it. If his answer is “Hitler is COOL!” I will judge him accordingly. I will judge anyone who aligns with, admires, promotes, advocates, or tolerates genocide. What is your issue with that?
ETA: I’m an average typist. I type somewhat quickly, but it is riddled with typos. Thanks for asking. It makes me feel special.

Just keep being baffled.

Must…resist…the softball…

Not thinking of Magneto.

I don’t think this is true. There seems to be inconsistant usage of it as a religious sign.

Not inconsistent. Just inconsistent with others’ really, reeeeeeeeally strong need to make it fit their preconceived notions. Who cares which way an ancient human language symbol turns? It’s just a hipster holier than thou guilt trip. Don’t eat bean sprouts, a cow died for them!

Tattooes are removable (with difficulty) right? If it was a youthful indiscretion wouldn’t he try to get it removed?

It’s an imperfect science (i.e. it can leave traces of the old tattoo as well as new scarring and discoloration) and it isn’t free. He certainly could have had it covered up, though; there is a thriving business of covering and blending old lovers’ names and such.

Sincerely,
OneCentStamp, owner of tattoos, friend of tattooers, and knower of people who’ve had tats removed

Yeah well, a lot of my tattoo wearing friends keep their old tattoos because unlike upgrading their iPods, their old tattoos commemorate times of their lives they’d like to remember, regardless of whether those old times worked out to be currently politically correct. “Mama” could have turned out to be a psycho bitch, but oh well. Keep the tattoo.

Hey, count me among those who don’t think the guy has any obligation to remove or hide his tattoo as long as he’s fine with people speculating and/or asking about it (which he presumably is). But please tell me you aren’t trying to cast that “not currently politically correct” net over a fucking swastika. It’s a lot more than un-PC.

Because it’s an old tattoo that’s only visible with his shirt off. It holds no meaning to him any more and he never thinks about it except when others ask him about it. He’s not interested in spending a few grand to get rid of a $50 tattoo and if you’re offended by his tattoo it’s your problem, not his.

At least that’s one reason.

Also, I know the OP said he has more recent tattoos, my guess would be that he didn’t want to waste his new ink on cover ups, again, because the old swastika tattoo holds no meaning for him anymore.

I rarely think about my old tattoos. I can’t tell you the last time I craned my neck around to see the ones on my back and I probably only even think about them a few times a month. If one of them was offensive in some way and I was the “I don’t care what others think about me” kinda guy, I probably wouldn’t waste my money getting rid of it if it was only visible for an hour a few times a week at the gym.
Or he’s wants to kill all the Jews, but I’m guessing it’s the former.

I don’t know why this guy has an old swastika tattoo, but I’m on record for thinking humanity needs to reclaim the ancient symbol rather than relinquishing it to a cultural guilt trip that is the equivalent to giving up the letter “n.”

Are we superstitious? No, we are not. We don’t cross ourselves when a black cat crosses our path. Well, I don’t.

If he’s so sanguine about it, he won’t have a problem being judged for it.

And you’ll have even less problem judging him for it. 'Cause that’s what you do.

The old, “you’re a bigot against bigots!” line, eh? :dubious:
