The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Spoilers)

There are some burlesque dancers and showcases left. My guess is the recruited from those.

AMAZON’S “THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL,” PRINCIPAL DANCERS
Casting is underway for the fourth season of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” White female dancers, aged 18–40, are wanted to play burlesque-style strip club dancers. Talent must be comfortable appearing in pasties/G-strings and working with atmospheric smoke. Rehearsals will take place in late January 2021, followed by filming in March through June in New York City. Pay is $788–$1,030 per day. Apply here!

If you’ve ever been to the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, you’ve probably seen some of these ladies.

Episodes 7 & 8:

“Fuck with me and you die.”

Rose doing Midge’s act.

“Hospitals hire mah-jongg players to distract you from impending death.”

Some funny bits. Some bits that strain credulity too far.

In terms of the soap opera arcs of the show - disappointed with the Bruce plot line going how it has. And Mei’s reaction confirms to me what her plan to deal with the pregnancy is, and putting her career on hold to be new mom, let alone the second Mrs. Maisel, is not her line of thinking. Joel has no plan but pretty sure does have one.

Am I right is assuming that each season represents a major step in the evolution of stand-up comedy?
S1 - Clubs
S2 - The Catskills
S3 - Touring
S4 - Burlesque
S5 - Late Nite TV?

What do you call doing the arthritis telethon at 11:55pm, chopped liver?

I”m talking about the very specific host-centric monologue-guest-skit format developed by Steve Allen, Jack Parr, Johnny Carson. etc. in the early 1960s which is what I assume the Gordon Ford Show is an analog for.

At least two of them are a pair of sisters, who are fitness trainers and dancers, whom I’ve followed on Instagram for a couple of years. Prior to COVID, they worked as dancers in Vegas for a while. They’ve been sharing behind-the-scenes pictures of themselves in the burlesque outfits on their Instagram account over the past couple of weeks.

I finished the season, what a ending monologue by Luke Kirby! And someone finally was able to tell Midge to stop screwing around and do the work. I think it’s partially her ego (which she gets from her father, which is why his story was so big this season) and partially because of her still being afraid due to the Shy Baldwin thing. Turning down the Tony Bennett thing because of only headliners was stunningly stupid - and one would think that not really having money coming in would have caused her to bend a bit.

The hypocrisy of that lecture about putting career over principles is priceless if you know anything about the trajectory of Lenny’s career after Carnegie Hall.

The last episode was the strongest of this season. A really nice, well written scene with Abe and Shirley. It wasn’t over-the-top but it remained poignant and funny. The same with Abe reading Moishe’s obit. That’s the clever, funny, and grounded dialog that I’ve missed this season.

Midge and Lenny was sort of inevitable, but I think it was handled OK. Lenny’s speech to Midge on the stage was needed - everyone watching has been saying that to her this entire season, but LB is probably the only one who could reach her.

Susie’s office situation is pretty unrealistic. Is she completely unaware that she’s in bed with the mob? And Frankie’s (?) reaction to checkin on Mei seems pretty unlikely too. He’s a low level mobster, but he’s unlikely to be that shaken by the Chinese gangs to that degree.

The progression of the strip club from dingy amateur hour to polished burlesque under Midge’s guidance was fun to watch. Idaho is a changed man.

That was done for humorous effect just like the cutthroat matchmakers. I don’t expect realistic portrayals of actual mobsters, comedians, agents, academics, or strippers from this show. It kind of exists in its own reality.

Agreed. Plus, he and his buddy may be running this as a side business - if they are going to try and lean on another mob (Chinese or otherwise), they’d have to let their boss have a taste because they’d need to permission.

Her conversation with Midge as she’s leaving the office seems to indicate she knows exactly that she’s in bed with the mob (where she reminds Midge that she met them while being kidnapped).

And Chinese gangs in Chinatown during the 20th Century were no joke. I am assuming that Mai’s family are either Triads or Tongs.

IMO, they’re playing it as if she doesn’t realize they expect to get a cut from everything she books. She was so wowed by the view from the office that she really wasn’t listening to them.

I think I read once that thanks to his management, a fairly large chunk of Dean Martin’s paycheck went to the mob, even as late as the Rat Pack years. Just when Midge starts to make it big (partly because the mob is buying off or threatening people to hire her), Frankie and Nicky will probably be knocking on her door for their cut.)

I’m almost done with the last episode of the season. In the category of egregious anachronisms, as the group is leaving Moishe’s hospital room, Shirley wants coffee and wonders if “the machine will take a $20” - bill acceptors didn’t exist in 1964, and those took singles. Expecting a coffee machine to accept a twenty dollar bill is not something that anyone in 1964 could even imagine as possible.

I read that MMM was being cancelled after four seasons but the information was pretty vague.

They had NCIS being renewed but every shingle person mentioned as being on the show is no longer there or at least active appearing. Sacha Alexander. Paulie Perrette, Michael Weatherly, and Mark Harmon. lol

Season 5 drops on April 14.
