You ruined the subtlety of my double entendre!
Yeah, well…you’ve got your Peanut Butter in my Chocolate!
Careful, Scumpup will turn that into a dirty metaphor.
It was implicit that my post was to be read in a Groucho voice.
Fie!! Abbott and Costello did have the Brilliant Who’s on first routine but Costello’s “Hey Abbott!!” and his whining get grating very fast.
No one could do clueless better than Stan Laurel. I recently watched a few of their early talkie comedies and It was a treat to watch. His Simpleminded innocence really works. Olver Hardy’s exasperated looks to the audience are also classic. So much so that they have been stolen by many comedians since (The only person to come close was Alan Hale Jr). As a team they worked better because there was no malice between them. Ollie may have been overbearing, but he never had that nasty streak that Bud seemed to have.
I, for one, would love to see The Marx Brothers vs. The Three Stooges—preferably set in an opera house next door to a hardware store and across the street from a bakery with a sale on cream pies.
